  1. I want to see some Sox taters tonight!
  2. I think it's quite obvious that XB is not Eglasias or even Drew (sp) at this point. But who is? I've seen most of his throws to first base. Many of them are high and or off mark. He seems to have a strong arm. My GUESS is that he needs more work on his footwork. He reminds me very much of a young Jetter. I don't understand why anyone here expects this kid to be all-world at this point. I say give him time to refine his skills. The people who are paid to evaluate baseball talent seem to be in consensus that he will be a very good SS. That is good enough for me at this point.
  3. Holy crap Fred. By all means avoid sharp objects. I'm not going to hit the panic button. I've been watching this team for 48 years and have seen slow starts too many times to think that the season is lost at this point. I just read an article on BDC that pointed out that between May 3 and May 14, 2013, the Sox went 2-9. Slumps are part of the game. This team has a bunch of talent. I see no reason why they won't start playing .600+ ball at sometimes this spring.
  4. And let's not ignore that his "durability" is only in question because he has been injured in routine game activities like batting and covering second base.
  5. You have your opinion and I have mine. Lester may want to stay ( and I hope that he does stay ). The Sox may offer more. I just don't see them going more than 5 years or much over 18 mil /year. You are right. They are not comparable. Ellsbury is worth more now.
  6. To me, It is interesting that many of the people who were shocked that Ellsbury signed with the Yankees for 7 / 152 now advocate for the Sox to spend in a similar fashion to retain Lester. I realize that pitching is the name of the game and that Lester is very valuable. But is he worth more than Ellsbury? Lester plays about 30-33 games each year. Ellsbury plays about 120-145 games a year. In every game he plays he threatens to make a game changing impact. How is it that Ellsbury is worth less to the Sox and to Sox fans? Yes, I realize that players who's primary attribute is speed tent to have the decline in their athleticism affect their contribution as they age. But then so do pitchers. I think that Lester is gone and that the Sox will be less inclined to attach themselves to any player for the outrageous $ and years going forth. The trend to long term deals at exorbitant money is a bad business model. I believe the Sox know this and will go another way. Next.
  7. I think it's time for a team meeting. Maybe someone like Pedroia ( who is about ice cold ) can wake these guys up. 5 dingers in one game??? Wow.
  8. What nice day for baseball. To bad that the Sox aren't playing up to potential. I hope that they find some way to split this series.
  9. I'm wondering when WMB will return. I'm not at all happy about the crap we have out at third now.
  10. I certainly wasn't pay very close attention. Was he throwing a lot of heat compared to his normal starts? He seemed to have the Sox off balance and guessing most of the night. And he had good control. I wouldn't worry to much about it. Of course I am pissed that he had to be so effective against my team! What do you think of Buch's effort? He appeared to be better than his first start which was dreadful. I'm just not confident that he will show much of what he had early last year.
  11. Maybe he just tired? How many innings has he pitched in the past two seasons? From where I sit, he looked pretty good. Although is was clear that the Ump had a wide and variable zone for both SP last night.
  12. We'll see him soon enough!
  13. Maybe. Maybe not. Just about anything would be an improvement, though.
  14. At least we still have our resident Hottie /milf VA!!!!!!
  15. Yeah I miss him too. Somehow when I joined TS I got the impression that ORS was in his late twenties or early thirties. I don't remember why. People come and go on Talksox. Some nice people with good knowledge of baseball have left. What ever happened to Example1????
  16. NESN is all over the topic of Ellsbury in the pregame show. AS IF!!!!! Hey, I was a big fan of his and I don't blame him for grabbing all that stupid money in New York. But I am so over him leaving!!! To me the big topic for tonight is how will Buch pitch?
  17. 02/56 here. Hence the Old Fart!
  18. Who Knows? Why would you head into the Fenway Park area to watch a game on tv?
  19. Hey Carter who is that in your avatar? Bruno San Martino?
  20. Still, it is AA. I agree that he is likely going to be in Pawtucket sometime this summer if he keeps up this level of performance. If so, maybe he gets a cup of joe in the bigs this year too. It's interesting to think about in any case. We also have Workman. He has demonstrated that he can get it done in the bigs. I see him as being a fill-in starter before Owens but who knows?
  21. Let's be thankful for what we have gotten so far from him. He seems in very good shape. Maybe he can continue for a couple of more years?
  22. lol. Back to the "normal" routine! I hope Buch shows up tonight!!!!
  23. This all makes very good sense unless the employer feels that they have another employee ready to replace the guy. What if the Sox are confident that one of the young players in MiLB will be ready next year? Not necessarily as a number one but someone ready to step up and start in the rotation.
  24. Well anyways I think Peavy pitched well overall. I'm not a big fan of his pitching and suspect that he may struggle this year. At least the Sox are still in this game.
  25. I awoke to find that Workman had been sent down to make room. Now I read that he will be stretched out so he can start in Boston. I agree that he will be needed as a starter eventually. We have Capuano (SP). I have very little confidence in Doubrant and Peavy at this point. I'm hoping that Buch returns to form soon but suspect that he won't.
