  1. You locked him into 2/24 for 30-31 at the expense of trade flexibility and payroll flexibility now. How much would he realistically sign for on the open market then? I don't think you're saving much money TBH. You're basically planting your flag in CF with Rafaela for better or worse. At one point after '24, people were holding their noses and saying "maybe he's just a UTIL, but it's ok because of how great Duran is." I think you only extend certain players. I don't think you extend all every day players that come through the system. It doesn't make financial or baseball sense to me. Not every prospect works out and you're going to see a lot of underwater contracts.
  2. Sure, but Roman Anthony has the same pedigree. Is it "production" or "star power?"
  3. Imagine if they had additional $$$ sitting around from not doing frivolous extensions!
  4. He's not a FA. No reason to give him a raise just because. You might be happy with him today, you may not be happy with him 2 years from now.
  5. Weird list for sure. Per AAV: Diaz Iglesias Williams Suarez Helsley Fairbankes Only one of the top six AAV guys is listed?
  6. Who cares about star power? WSH is second in runs and isn't loaded with stars.
  7. The outcome is that the Sox freed up their payroll from 8M and now have a roster where one of their best hitters doesn't have to sit out because underperforming Jarren Duran needs to play every day. Duran can't be successful in a bench role. They needed to commit to either Duran fulltime or Masa fulltime. And it's not "why do they have such great players," it's "why do they have a roster that doesn't make sense." You want a bench that has versatility and can come in for specific reasons. Duran doesn't have the mentality to be a bench player. Masa doesn't have the appropriate skillset for a bench bat (LHB, slap hitter, no speed). The amount of times that you are chomping at the bit to put Masa in for a pinch hitting situation is few and far between. He's a guy that gets more value when he's playing all game and putting more balls into play.
  8. I was saying trade Duran for prospects all offseason. 🫠
  9. His extended salary isn't microscopic. It's 6M AAV. It's money they didn't need to spend. It reduces his trade value and locks the franchise into having these players in the org.
  10. Red Sox 1992 - 83 wRC+ 1993 - 90 wRC+ 1994 - 89 wRC+ 92-94- 87 wRC+ 5th worst in MLB (includes FL/COL, two brand new franchises) 2026 - 85 wRC+
  11. Username is really the worst nickname of all time.
  12. A lot of people were really excited about the Sox just getting playoff experience from 2025. I'm not sure what exactly it provided to this group or FO.
  13. 2001 Red Sox Manny's first season. Nomar appears on the cover of SI. An old wrist injury is aggravated in ST and he appears in 20 G. Sox start off hot and are in first place in April and stay in the mix through late June. Pedro only throws 13 IP after July 1 and the wheels completely fall off without him. They were in 1st on July 2nd, but end the season 13 GB going 28-46 through Oct 2nd (ended the season on a meaningless 5 game win streak).
  14. He's trying to throw out RATM lyrics. Last time we tried a vaguely political thread was when we allowed a COVID topic thread and that was a mistake for sure.
  15. Are you saying that Yankees prospects don't have a history of being overhyped?
  16. His current salary would be microscopic if they didn't extend it. Just throwing money down the drain. For PR?
  17. Whatever they were holding out for on the Duran trades, was too much. Prospects would have been fine. 🙃
  18. Theo has no interest in being a GM/CBO ever again. He's getting paid to be a consultant and never get blamed for anything going wrong ever again. Sweet gig.
  19. 18 runs in the last 10 home games. WOW. Really pathetic even for this team.
  20. The idea was to flip some of the platoon bats AND get him to face the top of the order less. Moran struggled with that last time and got lit up. It worked for Bello. What's Bernardino up to?
  21. BOS is 9th in Pull %. Teams above them include underperforming SEA, CHW, LAA, MIN, HOU.
  22. Top 100 guys: Tolle 8 Arias 16 Eyanson 48 Witherspoon 73 Gonzales 98
