I've seen 4 WS. 9 last place finishes followed by a WS sounds like torture.
Let's say I live 40 more years, that's 4 WS and 36 summers of last place teams to be annoyed by. 36 years of my life wanting to change the channel vs 4 playoff runs. Doesn't seem worth it.
I don't think many of us predicted the outcome of '21 or '22 very well either. We typically go with the prior year and think it'll be close to that again.
I don't think he'll light the world on fire. I'm just (a) glad Kelly is off the roster and (b) interested to see how Guerrero will look in low pressure situations.
I think baseball turning into the max velo and max ev factory is why there are so many injuries. Max effort on every pitch and every swing is dumb and bad for a long career.
Yeah, there isn't a big difference between one day in MLB and 4 months in MLB in terms of leverage. Even a year and a half shouldn't up the price tag too much IMO. Even if it goes up 2M AAV, that's not the end of the world for a team like the Sox. At least make sure the guy is able to stick in MLB before he's getting his deal.
They thought they would get into the the playoffs this year. They had a bad plan. They are now behind the 8 ball and are 5 games under .500 in May. Adding one bat now and having them try to sneak into the last playoff spot in an expanded playoff race is going to do what exactly? This fanbase doesn't feel better about the franchise because they made the playoffs last year. Arguably, they feel worse because they lost to the Yankees! It doesn't feel like the playoffs meant much to the team either as it didn't carry over into the new year.
As I said yesterday, you are a go for it every year guy. That business model doesn't make sense.
Anthony/Mayer/Tolle/Early haven't even played a full season in the bigs and you think they are WS contenders? Laughable if that's the young core.
He's only been in GRE for 45 games. He's only had success for 35. Promotions used to take a lot longer than the are. Right now, it's more about finding playing time for all of these guys. Also, many players are tormenting the terrible pitchers in the SALY league this year. The HR totals are ridiculous and you just can't promote everyone.
HR/OPS:
Yophery 10/881
Yoeillin 8/911
White 8/894
Godbout 6/865
Gonzales 6/926
Winnay 6/863
The team as a whole is OPSing 800!
That was coming off back to back AL East titles. This team isn't there yet. We're still stuck at 2014/15 it seems.
The 2018 Sox were:
21-7 at the end of April
39-18 at the end of May
56-28 at the end of June
75-34 at the end of July
You can't compare this year to 2018. This is a AAA team compared to 2018.
This team is very flawed AND 5 games below .500. Why go all in on this year?
You ask for them to be buyers every season. They just can't be.
It makes no damn sense.
