I feel the same now as I did on Friday. I also don't feel very strongly about the third WC spot being all that meaningful. If the Sox have 6 teams ahead of them in the WC race and there are now 3 WC spots, it's pretty pathetic IMO. That's how many there were on Friday AM!
Cool. Do you think Mookie cares about the CBT or his cash?
Mookie Betts signed a 12 year, $365,000,000 contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers, including $65,000,000 signing bonus, $365,000,000 guaranteed, and an average annual salary of $30,416,667.
I'm saying that I've seen and heard it all over over the place, not just on here. Adding Adames to it only compounds the problem. Who cares if they cover the full cost of Masa and Story for another 18 months. Adames and Chapman are signed into the 2030's!
Not sure how trading for underperforming, aging, overpaid players is going to help the Boston Red Sox.
Last time out for Strider vs Sox:
5.1, 1 ER, 3 H, 3 BB, 4 K
Sox do better away from Fenway so maybe they have a better shot? Suarez will have to be near perfect though.
They should have left him as a reliever because that 5.86 ERA ERA and 829 OPS as a starter didn't work for me!
Look at that dogwater roster that Jimy took to 94 wins and the ALCS. It was an amazing managerial job.
The problem with Wake was that his best years were in years that ultimately didn't matter. The years that were important to the Sox (99, 04, 07, 08, 11) were years where he just didn't pitch all that well in.
His last two years were pretty bad and he should have retired after 09 when he missed half the season or at the very least after 10 when the bottom fell out.
Cheng has not really hit at AAA. Since hitting for the cycle, his OPS has tanked. Calling him up wouldn't have worked.
Capra is 29 and basically the same as Sogard, but not on the 40 man.
We were talking about last season though. Sogard should have been the call last year while Marcelo was still maturing as a hitter and Bregman was injured.
This year, none of these guys have the ceiling to really make a difference. They have a limited offensive output and a limited defensive output. You can put them out there more, but the team will still have a .500 ceiling.
The issue is that Werner wants to go full throttle, but he doesn't have the voting power at FSG to do so. They only give live mics to Sammy now because there are too many differing voices in ownership.
The team is underperforming and needs some veteran leadership to help lead them through their formative years. Rafaela has performed well this season and he has taken to Contreras. Story isn't a strong enough leader to push Anthony, Marcelo and others along.
Sogard has a higher wRC+. You can option him whenever you feel like it and it doesn't matter. He was one of the few guys to play well in the playoffs from what I remember. They should have just gone with Sogard. When you have a high ceiling guy like Mayer, you take your time and wait for them to bust through the door. He just didn't earn his promotion.
I love his pitch mix and build. If he adds velo, he's going to move up the system easily. Not sure about the ceiling at the moment, but it's good to have starters like him around.
