    You should ask the question about if they are having Ward fielding IF during practice in the other thread.

    I think any trade you do is mindful of next season as well. I'd trade for one big bat IFer and you probably need to deal Mayer to do so. I think Arias is probably in the conversation for a promotion midseason next year, so you really need MAYBE one big bat and another. However, I think it's fine if you have one IF position where you can throw Durbin/Sogard at and save money for elsewhere (DH). I think the Sox need to clear Duran/Masa/Story off the roster and add a RHB for DH. Taylor Ward? Ward has struggled hitting at Camden Yards, but is still mashing Away (858 OPS). Seiya Suzuki? Good Pull AIR%. Christian Walker trade?

    Last year he slumped once they put him in the IF. Just try not doing that again and see what happens?

    I'd smash that Neto trade. I don't think AZ does that Marte trade in season. I like Marte and think he can transition off 1b in two years if he needs to and still be a big time hitter. He's a guy who I think will still hit a bit as he ages. I wouldn't trade Narvaez. He's cheap and has a great glove. Lots of value even at a backup role. Not sure why everyone is down on him this year. Also, Rafaela has been much better than a #9 hitter so far.

    I think Ward would be an interesting piece for the right team. Here? I don't know what one more single per game does for this team TBH.

    Durbin just doesn't have the ceiling that Mayer does. You can put him on the bench and move him around the IF willy nilly. I'd still send him to AAA to give him a reset and see if he can get some confidence back. It's more important to spend time and really figure out how to fix Mayer or just trade him. I think guys like Seigler/Capra/Gasper/Sogard/Monasterio are all somewhat interchangeable and it doesn't matter who starts. Just go with whoever has the hot hand and it playing better at the time.

    Mayer could have a clear path back later this summer. Just give him June and July in AAA. No harm in it. Durbin and IKF are similar skillsets to me. Once Durbin is on the bench, IKF doesn't have a spot.

    Hit lower in the order? Marcelo has hit 7, 8 or 9 in 38 of his 49 games. He's never started a game higher than 6th. Can't get much lower than that! Mayer is really struggling lately. It's time to just get him to AAA and let him get some confidence back. Same with Durbin. Learning on the job clearly isn't working for them. Mayer 459 OPS May Durbin 384 OPS May

    I don't want to do nothing, I just don't want an Adames that is heading downhill fast. Why exacerbate the problems the 2026 Sox already have (bloated contracts for aging players with bad defense)?

    I wasn't making the argument that he'd get into the HOF if he retired after 2010. My "this isn't true" is clearly towards the "everyone on here would've never told you to sign him after 31" comment. I wouldn't take on Adames for half his contract through '31.

    You won't get similar production. Sogard has outperformed Mayer as an MLBer from the jump. Mayer is just not ready. He was promoted too early. He is overmatched and regressing. Durbin is one of the worst hitters in MLB. What is he learning from his failure right now???
