  1. It was just either or. To me, Kutter logs innings and is more consistent. Bello's stuff could theoretically play up in the pen.
  2. Campbell was named MiLB player of the year 9/24. You're referencing a story written on 9/23 where he was just the org player of the year.
  3. I'd put Bello in the pen.
  4. Bello supposedly being the #1 starter going into the year and not even getting to 2 bWAR is an embarrassment. I guess his peak is 4th starter to go along with everyone else now? He's on a fairly cheap deal. Sox could consider moving him this offseason as part of a larger deal for a better arm.
  5. Give me a 5th starter who can throw 180 innings and have a sub 4.25 ERA! I'm not sending that guy to the pen no matter how many HR's he gives up.
  6. I actually like Fernando, so it's hard for me to compare Fitts to him. Maybe we can go with MondoDick?
  7. Going into the year, Houck and Crawford were NOT the 1 and 2. That was Bello and Pivetta! Crawford pitched Game 3. Houck didn't pitch until Game 5.
  8. AFL roster was released: (From MLB.com) Red Sox (Mesa): Brooks Brannon, C (No. 27); Cooper Adams, RHP; Max Ferguson, INF; Zach Fogell, LHP; Danny Kirwin, RHP; Caden Rose, OF; Conor Steinbaugh, RHP; Tyler Uberstine, RHP Brannon possesses plus raw power and arm strength and led national high school players with 20 homers (tying his father Paul's North Carolina state record) and 91 RBI in 2022, but has played just 79 games the last two seasons while dealing with back and knee issues. The most interesting of the Red Sox arms is Uberstine, who topped out at 75 mph with his fastball in high school but now works in the low 90s with his two- and four-seamers and in the low 80s with his sweeper. He had Tommy John surgery in June 2023 and returned to the mound this August. Very uninteresting AFL roster for the Sox IMO. The only SoxProspect ranked guy is Brannon at 51.
  9. Only 43.1 scoreless innings to go before Fitts can match Hershiser's record.
  10. The media isn't even pretending to link Boston to Soto. 0.00% chance. I think we're almost at the point where most people would doubt if the Sox would be realistically in on ANY big names. Henry is going to have to prove it with a big FA signing or two before we come back around.
  11. Keith Law named him MiLB player of the year too.
  12. Kutter leads the league in losses. Maybe some old school guys would think that he had a terrible year? I think he had an ok year, but just needs to tighten up on the HR allowed numbers. Kutter's bad luck was pitching for a team that was wildly inconsistent offensively. On a better team, his 180 IP and 4 ERA would look a bit better IMO.
  13. That's only because baseball is LOL random. That's one of the tenents of TalkSox.
  14. There’s a simulation where it happens, but not in this reality.
  15. They mentioned in his last start that moving to the other side of the mound for his delivery has saved a lot of stress on his arm. Remains to be seen what his injury situation looks like going forward.
  16. 🤷‍♀️
  17. I'm hyped that he has thrown 30 starts and pitched more innings in '24 than in the previous two seasons combined. I think an article that homebrews a stat and spits Houck out in the 85th percentile seems fair for where his overall season has turned out. He may not reach these bWAR and fWAR numbers again. This season was a resounding success for a guy many people projected to be in the bullpen this April.
