  1. Dubon would have been useful over the past few years at 2B. They probably could have got the deal done with a lesser prospect. DD just didn't really care and wanted Thornburg.
  2. They only get the tax on amounts over the CBT and a supplemental surcharge above each threshold (12/45/60%). The tax is (20/30/50%) based on the number of consecutive years above the CBT. If the Dodgers were above for 3 years and over $301M, they'd be paying 110% on every contract above the CBT ($241M this year).
  3. We now know why the Sox changed up this winter festival. From the Pirates annual fest: As Williams was responding to the first question, one fan in attendance shouted, "Sell the team," prompting some applause from the audience. At that point, several fans started chanting, "Sell the team!" Greg Brown, the Pirates' longtime television play-by-play announcer, asked the fans to stop the chant and to "be respectful." Another fan then asked Williams, who was seated next to Pirates general manager Ben Cherington and manager Derek Shelton, why Nutting was not in attendance. "We know, at the end of the day, this is all passion that has turned into frustration relative to winning," Williams said, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. "I think the points that you are making in terms of 'Where is Bob?' That's why he has us here, we're here to execute and make sure that we win." The Pirates went 76-86 last season en route to their fourth last-place finish in the past six seasons. They have not finished with a winning record since 2018, have not reached the playoffs since 2015 and have just three postseason appearances since 1992.
  4. If it was perfect, he'd have included Carson Smith in his post.
  5. They also included Dubon in that trade. Dubon now has more bWAR post trade than Shaw.
  6. SoxProspects lists Soto at 30, Rivas at 37, Ramos at 38 and Delzine at 39. As we've seen from previous years, the top signed guys get a place in the top 50, but may not stick that high for long (Ascencio, Carrasquel, Freili, Fraymi, Ravelo, Lira).
  7. Yup, he'll want injury protection (long term deal), but the ability to opt out if he turns into one of the best starters in the game.
  8. It makes more sense to get a look at him in ST. I'm not sure it being done by Feb 1 is the end goal here. I think they'll keep working at it whether we hear about it or not. The Bello and Rafaela extensions appeared out of nowhere. I think that's what will happen with this too. They may be negotiating and it's just not reported. I'd be flabbergasted if they traded all those prospects for only 2 years of Crochet.
  9. A one year extension would really be weird bad.
  10. You're putting Soto at 21 before he's even played a DSL game? That's either quite a projection or the system is really bad right now. You don't even rank Justin Gonzales who hit 908 last year in the DSL and was the best offensive performer there (even brought to Fenway).
  11. Where's your property located?
  12. No wonder SF didn't tender him this offseason!
  13. He's a switch hitter with pull power as a LHB. Not ideal for Fenway.
  14. Sox tanking the season already?
  15. He was very close to it at times. 2014: Napoli 16M (highest paid) Ortiz 15.5M
  16. If they sign him for at or more than the HOU offer, it's a mistake.
  17. If Chapman is pitching the seventh? Great. If Chapman is pitching the eighth? Ok. If Chapman is pitching the ninth? Change the channel.
  18. They will most certainly churn the 40 man roster for bullpen arms this season. You can set your watch to it.
  19. They have the pieces to step forward, but I don't think it's necessarily a step forward by 15 games even if they add more at this point.
  20. Seems like a very shaky plan to me.
  21. Red Sox have the top 2b prospect in the game and should be ready on Opening Day. No, let's sign Bregman to play 2b for 5 years!!!
