  1. What if they had taken Brusdar and Verdugo instead of Verdugo and prospects? Would fans have been more amenable to that at all?
  2. The Rule 5 draft doesn't count, right?
  3. It's a MAJOR signing! I won him! Yeah, mind power!
  4. Steamer has Walker at 1.4 fWAR in 2023, 150 IP, 4.38 FIP. Pivetta is projected for 1.5 fWAR and most of us consider him the 5th starter.
  5. How about a DHern update: 12 G: 2.38 ERA 11.1 IP 13 K 5 BB 1.147 WHIP 2.60 k/bb I want to know what the k zone looks like over there.
  6. Will there be a nice Christmas present to open?
  7. His HR/9 was nearly cut in half. Best LOB% for a full season. His GB% increased and his IFFB% increased. With the movement away from the shift, will the hard hit ground ball be more likely to get through in 2023? People are teeing off on Walker, but not hitting it in the air ATM. You can like the guys you like and it's fine. I just don't think he's a guy I would trust long term.
  8. I'd rather them not say anything. All the "oops, just missed" makes them look like buffoons.
  9. Bloom is practicing patience. Fans are being disciplined.
  10. Which means it matters when these guys walk out the door. We can't just expect the Sox to be able to fill these big shoes.
  11. In reference to Devers leaving and Sox fans being left outside in the rain again, notin said "well it depends on the other moves made." I followed up with the question about what replaced Mookie. If these guys are leaving, what are these other moves that are making up for the loses? As of now, I don't see the benefit of letting guys like Mookie, Xander and Raffy leave. The Sox haven't shown that they've been able to adequately replace their value through other means.
  12. 2020: Verdugo 2021: Renfroe 2022: JBJ 2023: ???
  13. Casas is already hitting bombs in BOS. He OPS'd 768 in his first taste of MLB even though his BABIP was 208. Bleis is still far away. He needs another year to really pop on lists IMO.
  14. Puerto Rican Winter League is a pitcher's league. OPS there is 594. There are a lot of AAA pitchers and up and down guys. In comparison, the OPS for the AFL was 771.
  15. Lugo is also playing for Caguas. In 22 G: 754 OPS 325 OBP 4 HR 25 K 5 BB
  16. Yeah, I don't remember anyone saying it'd be a tank year. People just didn't assume they'd go on the run they did.
  17. I mean, Eflin literally picked the team closest to where he lives. I can't fault him for that. Even if they said "we'll give you an extra 1M" he may have passed. No reason to overpay, just find the next guy.
  18. When looking at his underlying metrics, I think his future potential is closer to a 5th starter. Bottom 25% in Hard Hit and EV. Bottom 33% in K and whiff. Nearly all of his metrics are bottom 50%. His only decent rate is bb% which is still just top 39th percentile. Not great. I think he's well below average.
  19. @MLBPipeline Ceddanne Rafaela picked a good night to break out. The No. 3 #RedSox prospect hit his first homer, doubled and knocked in 4 runs in @LBPRC action. In 17 G: 767 OPS 377 OBP 1 HR 14 K 8 BB While his slugging is down, because he's actually taking walks for once, he's getting on base at a higher clip than he did in A or AA this year.
  20. Then you run into issues like Gilberto Jimenez.
  21. Because Mayer and other prospects will be closer to being ready in 2024, the Sox should have gone all out in 2022 and 2023 and just blown out the lux tax with short term money. Reset in 2024 as the tank/bridge year.
  22. I think you've mentioned this before. I'm out on Walker. He's basically a 5th starter at this point. Taillon has 2 upside, but generally pitches like a 3-4. The issue with trading for Flexen is that you have to give up something to get him whereas Taillon is just money. It really just depends on what the trade is. If it was an apples v apples decision, most people would lean towards Flexen. I also believe Taillon is going to get more than $12M AAV.
  23. Eflin's velo has tailed off since his big injury in 2021, but he's been good a limiting hard contact and doesn't give up a lot of bb's. He's probably a more reliable option going forward than Wacha. Maybe was just going to be a cheap replacement for Eovaldi?
  24. What were the moves to replace Mookie? In 3 years, they still haven't found a steady RF replacement. What will be the long term solution at SS? Probably just wait for one of the young guys to be ready. Devers? If he goes, what will they do at 3b? Is it some combination of Lugo/Bonaci/Paulino/et al? This is next year's FA class for 3b: Third Basemen Matt Chapman (31) Rafael Devers (27) Josh Donaldson (38) – $16MM club option with an $8MM buyout* Eduardo Escobar (35) – $9MM club option with a $500K buyout Manny Machado (31) – can opt out of remaining five years, $150MM Mike Moustakas (35) – $20MM club option with a $4MM buyout* Max Muncy (33) – $10MM club option Gio Urshela (32) Joey Wendle (34)
