  1. If they let Bogey go, but the Sox play well then it's hard to complain. If they struggle again, Bloom's done for.
  2. So no matter what happens, you don't buy it. The best spin that could come out of this story is that it's just the agent saying "Bogey is ok with leaving Boston, so feel free to send us your offers everyone."
  3. If he was an above average Catcher, he'd be worth 20M, but a lot of the value is tied up in his bat. It'd be a very underwhelming replacement for the holes this team has.
  4. He's the common denominator for everything, the good and the bad. To just ignore the bad parts doesn't make sense to me. The Sox didn't have to be bad in 12 to win in 13 and bad in 14/15 in order to win in 18. Did the Sox have to be bad in 20 and 22 for their next great team? Probably not.
  5. Gammons is a fairly well regarded voice though. If it was coming from someone else, I'd give it less value. IDK. I'm concerned in so much that the Sox stated that Xander was the first priority, but it really doesn't feel like it.
  6. I think we know how that will play out. Better just trade him now IMO.
  7. From Jeff Passan: Multiple teams, sources said, worry about Contreras — who is not known for his game-calling acumen — meshing with a new pitching staff on the fly. The number of teams with World Series aspirations that could use a catching upgrade isn’t huge, but the New York Mets and Houston Astros have been in contact with the Cubs about the 30-year-old free agent-to-be, sources said, and the San Francisco Giants are poking around on catching options, too. Other teams could seek Contreras more as a bat with the ability to play catcher rather than acquiring him as a primary backstop.
  8. I know what my plan would be and it seems that the Sox plan is going to be quite different. It's a bold strategy Cotton.
  9. I think they try and piecemeal it cheaply for a few years until the young guys show up.
  10. Severing ties is just an embarrassing look for this organization.
  11. That's the whole "bashing without solutions" part. The only solution that has been provided was "fire Bloom" but I don't think that necessarily even gets to the root of the problem the Sox have. The reason the Sox are in a roller coaster cycle is due John Henry.
  12. @pgammo As Ever, fact, but but while one doubts Bogaerts would switch positions, in the past three days front office folks from 3 teams claim they’ve been told he has severed Boston ties and won’t be going back. Whether that’s negotiating leverage talk or reality, there’s no confirmation.
  13. The signing makes sense for the Astros, not the Sox in 2023. Maybe the 2025 Sox can sign a DH like that?
  14. Contreras isn't a great defensive catcher. Adequate? Sure.
  15. Why? Shouldn't re-signing Bogey help to re-sign Raffy?
  16. Abreu Career OBP: 354 2022 OBP: 378 I think there will be a little regression. Add in the decrease in power and it may not be a great picture.
  17. Bashing is fine and good. Bashing without providing ANY solutions... Not great or productive for conversation!
  18. The sample size being Mazz and Merloni. LOL
  19. "You guys are so off base because Mazz and Merloni said..." is half of his arguments. Keep sucking on the bottle of big corporate media.
  20. Yes, because we don't blindly follow the lamestream media narrative like you. Duh. We all think for ourselves on here and disagree with each other all the time, but somehow your perception is that we're the outside the norm and weird and love Bloom even though we complain about the Sox all the time.
  21. Tatis Jr: -9 Career DRS and currently being moved off SS
  22. How it's done is to expect Abreu to keep that 350 BABIP going...
  23. Is that Contreras?
  24. So they sign Contreras instead of Bogey to wait on the younger SS to make it. If the younger guys don't pan out? If Raffy leaves next offseason? I'm not into it.
  25. If the goal is to stay under the cap, I think there are higher priorities than filling C. They don't have anyone close enough in the org that is ready to take over as a cheap option long term at C, but I just think SS, Corner OF and SP are much higher priorities. Would the signing prevent them from filling the other needs or extending Raffy? IDK. Aside from 2021, his DRS numbers aren't impressive and his framing isn't very good.
