    Back to the original point: there was a guy on the Sox once who used to take the first pitch all the time and it was maddening. https://baseballsavant.mlb.com/savant-player/mookie-betts-605141?stats=statcast-r-hitting-mlb In this case, the stats back up the idea that in 2018, Mookie Betts swung at less than 10% of the 1st pitch of an at bat. It was frustrating sometimes, but he was also having the greatest year of his career. This year, Mookie has swung at 30%.

    Use the stats to support what your eyes see. If the stats shows something else, you need to keep watching and maybe re-evaluate. Just using stats is not the right way to do it either.

    Advanced metrics show us that Franchy was -4 Defensive Runs Saved at 1B in 360 innings (about 40 full games). That's really terrible. -28 UZR/150. As for Duran, he was -9 Defensive Runs Saved in CF in 408 innings. Again, that's really bad. Some people were saying "oh, his speed will make up for his lack of instincts," but analytics can support our conclusion that his defense was a nightmare. He was worse in CF than Franchy was at 1B, almost twice as bad.

    I'd rather them have someone else in mind for the 4th OF slot that Refsnyder can beat out.

    In this list, you've included Kelly, Workman, Porcello, Beckett, AGon and CC. Did they ever offer extending AGon/CC/Beckett from above what they already signed? I don't remember hearing this? Kelly and Workman were relievers who left and nobody was all that concerned about. Porcello? Did they offer an extension to him? Ever? Were they talking about extending Nomar/Pedro/DLowe at all? I don't remember that happening either? I think they just saw those guys as getting older and letting them out the door.

    Or the rancor is overplayed and the players were really just venting frustrations about their friends leaving.

    I'm not sure I want Pham on this team in 2023. He's a LF only guy. I think I'd rather the Sox find a RF glove and move Verdugo back to LF.

    Being "dismissive" isn't the same as "not penciling in" or "not expecting it." He'll have to earn the playing time next Spring. Maybe he gets a bench spot and produces in April and gets more at bats over time.

    As I've said before, baseball players are dumb and don't care about things like the present value of money. He wanted more than $350M and he got it.

    I disagree. If they are bringing Hill, Wacha and Eovaldi back again, they need to be prepared for long IL stints again. These guys do take up space on the 40 man. Are they also going to go with the Paxton/Sale experiment again?

    He gave in because he finally got $365M which is a f***-ton of money.
