It would depend on where the rest of the money was spent. Andrus 35.1 fWAR, 3.5 last season and will be MUCH cheaper than Swanson. Steamer projects 1.9 fWAR at 10M. He'll give you SURPLUS value. Considering how much Swanson could cost, he may give you negative value in 2023.

According to Pete Abraham, it was and the fans were being lied to. We'll have to see where the chips fall. I think the Sox have a tendency to do too much PR and it ends up making them look foolish in the end.

2020 is a throwaway year. Prior to 2022: Bogaerts fWAR 28.1 Swanson fWAR 9.8 Yeah, Swanson was nothing special prior to 2022. I'll stick with that assessment.

And yet Swanson's contract is going to be too high for what his actual value will be going forward. I just don't see it with him.

McGriff has fairly similar JAWS to Tony Perez. He wasn't a slam dunk candidate, but he's better than Mattingly.

The whole voting process itself is more about (lower p) politics of the BBWAA than anything else. The veterans committees have been voting in undeserved candidates since the Hall was opened. There are so many players that got in because of who they were friends with or because of some dumb radio jingle that a lot of the Hall is one big eye roll. The surprising thing is that anyone is still surprised about it.
