  1. I don't care about the salary dump. They could have reset in other ways. I'd want extra prospects. Wow, Cordero! JBJ was the MIL salary dump! Was that a benefit to BOS? The prospects and players that have come back just haven't performed well enough. The Beni trade didn't work out at the end of the day. Verdugo is ok, but I'd still want more for the best player in the game. The Pivetta trade is the only trade that is a no doubt win for Bloom and that's not a great look.
  2. They were burned on Sale and maybe Price. However, while the contracts have increased, the revenue from tv contracts have vastly outpaced salary inflation. Additionally, the Red Sox were valued at 400M at the time of purchase, 1B in 2012 and now almost 4B in 2022. If he's worried about overpaying for Raffy or Xander, I'm going to find the proverbial tiny violin and start to play it.
  3. Per FanGraphs: Betts is 1st Xander is 14th Devers is 25th Harper was 24th and Stanton was 99th.
  4. There's just two. I think Topps uses bWAR on the back of their cards, but I find that site less intuitive to use so I just use FanGraphs now. Neither system is infallible.
  5. https://www.fangraphs.com/leaders.aspx?pos=all&stats=bat&lg=all&qual=y&type=8&season=2022&month=0&season1=2018&ind=0&team=0&rost=0&age=0&filter=&players=0&startdate=2018-01-01&enddate=2022-12-31&sort=22,d You can go to the Leaders section on FanGraphs and chose multiple seasons. I'm not sure how to do it on BRef.
  6. And if you truly believe Henry, then you have to remember what he said on air that he disagreed with the CC signing, but still agreed to the contract. He gets out of the way of the people that makes the decisions. He has said that he doesn't run the operations.
  7. Henry doesn't do the drafting or implement overall strategy. He sets the budget and may have the final say on larger long term contracts. I don't think he gets involved in the Joelys of the world.
  8. Well, if a deal for either player comes up and it doesn't match their standards, they'll explain it away as an aberration.
  9. It's a plaything that they don't want to spend too much money on. They hire nerds to run the business who obsess over minutia that in the grand scheme of things just comes down to "well, it's all about luck anyway."
  10. I think if the future focused moves worked out, there'd be less need for crying. Unfortunately, a lot of the prospect deals haven't amounted to much.
  11. Let's go look and see what Management looked like in 2014. VP, Asssistant GM Brian O'Halloran Director, Player Development Ben Crockett Assistant Director, Amateur Scouting Gus Quattlebaum Senior Director, Minor League Operations Raquel Ferreira I guess these are the 4 Horsemen that we can blame?
  12. It's the owners. The new market inefficiency is just going out and signing players right away it seems.
  13. So is that his ceiling? Not what he did in 2022 or 2021?
  14. Mayer Casas Whitlock Bleis Rafaela Houck Mata Yorke Perales Romero Anthony Paulino Gonzalez Walter Jordan Winckowski Crawford Murphy Lugo Rodriguez-Cruz Ward Bonaci Hickey Kavadas Coffey Wong Duran Valdez Downs Abreu Seabold Drohan German Kelly Brannon Salazar Paez Alcantara Meidroth Fernandez
  15. I think Reynolds will be too expensive. If I'm spending prospect capital, I'm using it towards the rotation.
  16. If Haniger was able to stay healthy, he'd really enjoy hitting at Fenway as he's a dead pull hitter. https://baseballsavant.mlb.com/savant-player/mitch-haniger-571745?stats=statcast-r-hitting-mlb
  17. @NBCSEdgeBB Red Sox, Rangers 'among most serious' on Haniger
  18. I can see the argument that Raffy COULD gain weight and hurt his career. However, a lot of the negative perception is due to the shape of his face and the fact that he's just generally a bigger guy. I think if he didn't come right after Pablo Sandoval, we wouldn't be as concerned. I think Betts plays hard, but I wouldn't say he's as reckless as Pedroia, who often had shorter seasons due to nagging injuries and had a knack for diving headfirst into first base or whatever. I think there's a bigger risk that a guy like Casas doesn't age well. He's already had a few injuries, carried a lot of weight when he was younger and is generally unathletic. If I had to bet money on someone having a shorter career, it'd be him.
  19. So it's the MVP award, not the overall numbers?
  20. Stanton's Monster season? Devers had the same fWAR that Stanton had prior his deal. Harper had one big year, then 3 decent, but not great years before his deal. Giving out a 300M deal because a guy had a 9 fWAR season 4 years earlier doesn't make sense to me.
  21. Crybabies , pinkhats, pollyannas... What will you guys think of next? Very productive discourse!
  22. I disagree that he's had weight issues or that his nagging injuries are anything worse than what Betts has gone through during his career. Arguably, Betts has had worse injuries that has impacted his game more severely (see 2021).
  23. Even saying that once, just sets you up to look dumb.
  24. Betts is probably a HOFer unless he gets some horrific injury. Bogaerts is off the ballot in one year unless he ages very well. Devers remains to be seen.
  25. No, Devers never had Harper's 9.3 fWAR in 2015, but he's matched all of his other seasons. Stanton through age 25 21.5 fWAR. Devers through age 25 18.1 fWAR, which would be much closer to Stanton's number if 2020 was a full season.
