  1. Last time out for Strider vs Sox: 5.1, 1 ER, 3 H, 3 BB, 4 K Sox do better away from Fenway so maybe they have a better shot? Suarez will have to be near perfect though.
  2. GM's want to win this year. Chapman could help a team at the top of the standings do that. Sox are at the top of the draft board instead.
  3. They should have left him as a reliever because that 5.86 ERA ERA and 829 OPS as a starter didn't work for me! Look at that dogwater roster that Jimy took to 94 wins and the ALCS. It was an amazing managerial job.
  4. The problem with Wake was that his best years were in years that ultimately didn't matter. The years that were important to the Sox (99, 04, 07, 08, 11) were years where he just didn't pitch all that well in. His last two years were pretty bad and he should have retired after 09 when he missed half the season or at the very least after 10 when the bottom fell out.
  5. Cheng has not really hit at AAA. Since hitting for the cycle, his OPS has tanked. Calling him up wouldn't have worked. Capra is 29 and basically the same as Sogard, but not on the 40 man. We were talking about last season though. Sogard should have been the call last year while Marcelo was still maturing as a hitter and Bregman was injured. This year, none of these guys have the ceiling to really make a difference. They have a limited offensive output and a limited defensive output. You can put them out there more, but the team will still have a .500 ceiling.
  6. You want a high ceiling ace for 5 years over a string of low ceiling 4th starters??? WTH?
  7. The issue is that Werner wants to go full throttle, but he doesn't have the voting power at FSG to do so. They only give live mics to Sammy now because there are too many differing voices in ownership. The team is underperforming and needs some veteran leadership to help lead them through their formative years. Rafaela has performed well this season and he has taken to Contreras. Story isn't a strong enough leader to push Anthony, Marcelo and others along.
  8. Voting for the Hall of Fame is deeply unserious.
  9. Sogard has a higher wRC+. You can option him whenever you feel like it and it doesn't matter. He was one of the few guys to play well in the playoffs from what I remember. They should have just gone with Sogard. When you have a high ceiling guy like Mayer, you take your time and wait for them to bust through the door. He just didn't earn his promotion.
  10. Azocar got the callup. He'll really mash in the HR heavy SALY.
  11. And that's hitting in POR in April and May!!!!
  12. I love his pitch mix and build. If he adds velo, he's going to move up the system easily. Not sure about the ceiling at the moment, but it's good to have starters like him around.
  13. Max Fried is on his way.
  14. The Cardinals are currently 8 games ahead of the Sox in the standings.
  15. People just want to feel better about the Red Sox and believe that Mookie didn't want to be here. It helps them reconcile with Mookie being gone. They believe there was no chance of him staying. However, if Henry just put down the right contract, he'd still be here.
  16. Betts wanted fair market value. Sox didn't want to give it to him. Can't blame Betts for wanting 350M+. Sox wouldn't even get to 300!
  17. It's fine to put chips in young pieces, but don't then have Roman bat leadoff and expect him to put up MVP numbers. He still needs a little protection. Let him mature before you put the entire org on his back. Marcelo was rushed up last season. He never really knocked the door down in AAA. KC was rushed last year and it didn't work out either.
  18. As for Chapmans, I've heard some fans really yearning for Matt Chapman. Just don't know if I want that contract through 2030! Sox aren't competing this year and next year may be a "just get back into the playoffs" run. Sox need to start building around a younger core. Unless Chapman is on a deep discount, it doesn't make sense to have an aging player like him at 3b. Lowell was toast after 34. Youk was done about the same age. Arenado seems to really like hitting in AZ, but he's going in the wrong direction at that age.
  19. And Chapman may not stick around for '27 anyway. It's a MUTUAL option, not a team option. Deal him.
  20. Maybe early on, but he held on for a few too many years.
