    They are 5th in luxury tax since it began behind NYY/LAD/NYM/PHI, paying approximately $55M (97% of which came before 2020). The problem is, fans got used to them being top 5 and more often top 3 for a long portion of JH's reign. I think that's why it's easy to rant about cheapness when he's still spending more than 2/3's of the league (and yes, a large part of it is due to the overwhelming revenue he brings in). Also, the Sox have a tendency to not see these contracts through to their end, so the idea of all these players being locked up for a certain time period does ring hollow. All we really have is what is being paid out today. Who knows what the move will be tomorrow?

    They thought moving him to the OF would better utilize his speed. It just took a long time for that to bear out.

    That situation is completely the same. It's not like bullpen arms aren't completely fungible and moved all the time. Were the Red Sox just like the '24 ChiSox? They were THAT bad? I'm sorry you had to go through that for 3 whole seasons!

    If he was merely below average in k% and defense, I'd sign him. There was interest when he was going to transition to 1b. Now? IDK.

    "Would almost certainly result in a bad contract." Like the Masa and Hicks contracts? If you're going to sign a bad contract, at least get one that will provide value for a few years. Part of having financial might is being able to eat some money once in a while. JH doesn't have that appetite though.

    I don't have a problem with the defensive metrics and get why OAA and DRS don't match. I just don't necessarily agree with how they have determined defense factors into WAR.

    111 wRC+, 4 DRS in '25 If he can approximate that going forward, he'll have a spot somewhere.
