  1. That's not until after the team has already reported to camp I believe. At that point, the roster should have already been manufactured.
  2. If Breslow were able to, he'd field a starting lineup of 162 guys that didn't move off position. It's just CHEAPER to find platoon bats that can play mediocre defense at multiple positions.
  3. TalkSox posters don't really know what can be done with Masa. Maybe he can be sent to WOO with one of his options? It'd be silly to have him and Casas there taking up 40 man spots without a long term plan though. With suspected an OF trade would clear up roster issues for a few offseasons now. Haven't seen one materialize yet.
  4. The actual theory is that something happened at the KC meeting between Devers and JH which caused JH to decide Devers needed to go.
  5. It was said that a lot of the Japanese contracts had language that they players were able to refuse being sent to AAA even though Masa has options. We don't know what his contract says for sure. I'm more confident in Masa providing value than Hicks. He's lost a little velo the past few years and still has no idea where it's going. Breslow got rid of all the other high bb guys. Time to move on from Hicks. If they traded Kelly now, just to see what Hicks looked like in ST, it's not the worst idea in the world.
  6. With those types of ideas, Breslow would really be on the fast train out of town.
  7. Once they had to start paying off that contract, Raffy had to go!
  8. If Duran isn't traded, will we hear about a mysterious injury that Masa has at the start of the season?
  9. How about this guy: 2.8 bWAR/162 over his career 8 DRS '25 at 2b 8 DRS '24 at 2b
  10. If Masa is only DHing 100 AB's, DFA him today.
  11. I don't think Paredes is a defensive whizz, but he's more likely to plateau at below average than see his skills absolutely crater due to age in the near future.
  12. Dodgers - 95 wins Yankees/Sox - 87 wins Jays - 86 wins O's - 83 wins Rays - 78 wins Rockies - 64 wins
  13. Paredes is still 26. How much younger do they want?
  14. Duran is fine for the backup CFer when Rafaela needs a day off.
  15. Suarez '23 -3 DRS '24 -4 DRS '25 -6 DRS He's only going to get worse since he'll be 35 this season. Sox showed interest last trade deadline so that they could move him to 1B. Don't see the fit at 3B going forward TBH.
  16. I thought this WAS the Luxury Tax thread! 🙃
  17. I think they know 2b was his best chance for playing time. Even knowing that, they moved him off the position.
  18. Someone said that they think he can still be good at 2b. So why send him to 2b? I think there must be considerable discussions about what he is and isn't good at with people on both sides. Since he didn't play 2b in the winter leagues, I think we know where Craig stands.
  19. There's just no way. Pena is the best player the Astros have left. I don't think they are giving up on that roster yet. He also would cost a lot and doesn't really check some of the boxes that the Sox really like (exit velo, hard hit, chase rate). Good defender, pulls the ball, but would take a lot in a trade.
  20. AUG - 744 OPS SEP - 815 OPS Seeing that Campbell still doesn't have a defensive home, he needs to do more than that to get a call up.
  21. 2003 - terrible defense, 28th in bullpen ERA (bullpen by committee), 3rd offense 2004 - terrible defense, but they win because they had a healthy starting rotation all year and the bullpen pitched lights out in the playoffs 2005 - 4th offense, terrible defense, 18th pitching staff 2007 - 2nd in team ERA, lights out bullpen, only injury was to Schilling 2011 - 2nd offense, 16th in pitching, 7th in defense 2013 - starting pitching was healthy except for Buchholz, top 10 defense 2018 - top 5 pitching staff, top 5 defense 2019 - 6th offense, 12th pitching, 5th defense I think punting on pitching would be a bad idea. They could get away with a bad defense, but would need to have a really, really great offense (which they don't have).
  22. I'm not sure it's even that. The guy is 25, has barely appeared in AA and has a 20 arm according to FanGraphs. They just dumped him for someone who can be a backup catcher in the org and to add a glove in ST. That's really pushing the definition of "depth."
