The ship doesn't need to be righted. It needs to stay out of dry dock getting repairs lol
I'm fine with him taking his time at this point but I would really like to see him back pitching by September.
I know why these threads are getting bumped and well I find it amusing. The s*** storms that tend to result from this action isn't. It be better if people just laughed it off and admitted they were wrong, but that's asking a lot from some.
I also see a positive in bumping theses threads as Gomes and others were peoples pillars in their arguments at the overall ineptitude of Cherries and the rest of the FO. Which was a topic that a lot of time was spent discussing last off season.
I still think he is a September call up. But if he gets called up before then it won't be a shock. I'm chomping at the bit to see this kid play in Boston too
I'm guessing Texas or Pittsburgh gets him in the off season. Texas is desperate for a bat and they can build a a package around Profar and Perez. Pittsburgh has overall a fairly young team and can take a shot at "now" and deal a portion of their "future" talent. Their farm system is definitely deep enough to pull off a trade. Would he be an upgrade in the OF for the Sox? Of course, but the OF has some decent depth and is overall good. The Sox imo are in more need of the pieces it would take to get Stanton then Stanton himself. Therefore even if he was/is/will be available, it doesn't make sense for the Sox.
No thanks, Stanton is awesome but there isn't any one player I'd trade half my teams top 10 though unless the system is ranked bad. You don't wager a chunk of a top 5 farm system for one guy.
I loved Iggy's defense but this was a good spot to move him. Last off season most thought he would never stick and not build any kind of value. If you said he be the main piece in a trade bringing back a mid rotation SP you would have been ridiculed right off the board
If it's not for top prospects it be worth it. Having Lee let's them shop another SP this off season as well. It's a lot of money tho. At least it would be short term. I'm gonna have to see the names in the package going to Philly before I could totally jump on a deal for those two.
Rios for almost his entire contract has not lived up to it. But he probably has salvaged it for the most part. Werth is a tough call. I put him on there because I thought Washington really over paid for him. But if he keeps up his current production for most of the remaining part of the deal it probably won't look too much like an overpay.
Let's see,
Arod, Soriano, Upton, Werth, Santana, Bay, Howard, Rios, Pujols, Hamilton, Crawford, Zito.
A few of those guys have enough time left on their deals that they could perform well enough that the deals don't seem too bad.
OMG no way they bring back Loney. Just because TB can squeeze out his talent doesn't mean some other team can. If he's smart he tries to get a modest semi year deal done to stay in TB.
