  1. Not bad
  2. They said the exact same thing about Ichiro when he broke in. It's a drastic overpay any way you slice it. For 3-4 years it may be ok if he stays healthy. The last 3 years are going to look awful.
  3. At first when I read the headline I was like damnit. Then I read the contract and have been laughing all day. I would have thrown up in my mouth if the Sox signed him to that and I am/was a Jacoby supporter. Can't fault him either for taking the drunken sailors money.
  4. Ajs one of those "he's an *******, but he's our ******* so" kinda guys. Had a guy like that here. Drove me nuts when he was on the other team, cracked up laughing when he joined my team. Also it's a one year deal and now there is a great platoon situation with AJ and Ross. I'm fine with the deal. If for some reason he becomes a problem he's easy to cut loose.
  5. That contract is going to be an albatross half way through. No thanks. It would be funny at first however I do agree about that.
  6. Perralta's deal is absurd. I don't know what the hell the Cards were thinking
  7. I wouldn't have minded McCann but I would have not been overly excited for that contract. Jacko raises a good point that he can move to 1B in 3 seasons which imo will help the back end of that contract. If he's able to produce and stay at C and play 120-130 games a year for the next 3 seasons it will be a solid deal. If he struggles to produce over that time or misses time due to injury the deal will be a train wreck. Overall the Yanks need a C and they went and got the best talent at that position on the market. And guys this does not overly hurt them with the LT, before the signing they had like 90M before hitting the LT tax in committed contracts.
  8. Not sure I see them going after Kemp. But for conversation sake let's say they did, Kemp (14:$21M, 15:$21M, 16-19:$21.5M annually or 6/128M) for Dempster( 1/13.25M)+Gomes(1/5M) as the base of the deal. LAD takes on both Sox players contracts plus 30M of Kemp. Sox get Kemp for 6/98M. LAD Takes on 48M a Mid rotation SP on a short deal, 4th OF on short deal and most likely a SP prospect. Yes obviously the could just sign Ells for around that(maybe) but Kemp isn't only replacing Ells, he would be replacing some RHH power in the line up. I could see them moving him to LF as well and going with JBJ in CF with Nava being the fall back option.
  9. I was saying Dodgers but they would almost be a surprise now. My reality pick is the Yanks for 7/175M 5M signing bonus, 18M club options for years 8-10( 8m buy outs each year), then the normal bonus's. My dark horse pick is the Nats 8/225M, 2 25M option years.
  10. Max 2. It's not like he can transition to DH. There's almost "too much" Beltran/Sox talk. It's not like the Sox FO typically walks around lose lipped about who they want to bring in. And they also don't give up 1st rounders that easily. This really seems like someone is using the Sox to run Beltrans price tag up. I would be very surprised if Beltran ended up in Boston.
  11. I think the "interest" in Beltran is only to drive up his price imo. If they do however bring him in it could be for LF with Gomes and Nava/Carp take over 1B. Maybe idk, it have to be some kind of combo or someone would have to get dealt. You have to think Carp and Nava's trade value is probably higher then it has ever been, so it's possible. This is just one of many possible routes that the Sox could take.
  12. This is what I was thinking for a deal. Give him a vesting option for the 5th year or a club option with a decent sized buy out. If the have to give a 5th year guaranteed I'd be a little worries but might be able to stomach it. He could go to DH or 1B the last couple years of the deal. Looks like McCann has a an crush on Boston fro all these reports from him and his agency. Could be them just using Boston to drive the price tho.
  13. I'm on the fence fred to be honest. I could see it going either way.
  14. I don't buy the Beltran hype. They are either running the price up for the Yankees or the agents are hyping it to milk the Yanks. I don't see them moving Vic to CF or Beltran holding down CF for 2 years which is probably the length of deal he will get imo.
  15. No it wouldn't. Boras in the end, works for Ellsbury. If he wants to stay with the Sox then he tell's Boras to get the best deal possible from Boston. Boras is great at what he does even tho he's a dick but unless he has some clause with his clients that says they have to accept the largest contract offer regardless of where the offer comes from, then the choice is the players. I don't think JBJ has shown enough to warrant the FO to completely dismissing Ells especially if he is interested in coming back. If he came back JBJ becomes a decent trade chip, injury/regression insurance on Nava/Gomes/Victorino. This is not bizarro world stuff. Don't get me wrong I've been expecting Ells to be gone for sometime now. But Pedroia going out there has to have some kind of effect. Whether its enough to get him to leave 20-30M on the table? Who knows. But it might, we shall see.
  16. Letting Cano walk and avoiding another albatross right when the others are up is the right move. But it would take some wabos to do it. It's gonna be an interesting offseason all around the league
  17. Not to me it wouldn't have. But I am of the belief that 20M+ per year commitment should be reserved for middle of the order bat or top 5 MLB SP. Crawfords contract was ridiculous and he was never going to live up to it imo. Unless he dry humped a magic lamp and a genie wished his ass to 25HR+ a year land. I also hated the fact it gave Boras a viable comparison for Ellsbury at that insane price.
  18. If he signs a big deal to stay with Boston the site will melt first injury he gets haha I'd love to see him stay and probably could stomach the risk of a BJ Upton deal but if it goes past 5 years I'm really skeptical. If St. Louis can lose Pujols and keep truckin, I'm sure the Red Sox can survive losing Ellsbury.
  19. Tanaka is not Darvish and will cost more, no thanks. 92 MPH FB and a great splitter. Sounds like a nice RP, not 100M+ SP. I think everyone is getting caught up in his video game numbers this season.
  20. There is no reason to give up on WMB while he is still so inexpensive. Sure if a sweetheart deal comes along you consider it but I doubt many of those will be coming. Right now you hold onto him and see what happens with Drew and Napoli first.
  21. I will. I'm betting Boras gets a Crawford type deal for Ells. Seattle has money to burn and needs offense bad, two of Boras's favorite situations. Maybe another team sneaks in, but my money is on Seattle.
  22. I thought the 9.5M player option was the parting gift? lol
  23. So sweet
  24. I was a Lackey hater from the start but that changed this spring. I was happy for him and glad he was on the mound last night.
