This is just the kind of Torre move that seems to work out for them. They know they can smack Wells, so he lifts Mussina before the game get out of hand. The Sox have got to hammer this guy.
I'm not a fan of Chass, although this is different from the usual spew of yankee apologist/sox hater trash he likes to write.
One post script to the game. How fitting it was for Hollywood yank fans Adam Sandler and Chris Rock to throw out the first pitch in a humiliating NY loss. Serves them right for re-making a movie that is perfect in it's original version and never should have been remade.
I don't see how Olerud makes his first start against RJ. But I would look for him to pinch hit late or be a defensive replacement. At least we have an option at first.
I think it's remarkable the Sox are still ahead of NY considering no Schilling, poor Wells, erractic Foulke, broken down Embree, no Millar bat, Mueller slumping, Manny distracted, and Edgarrrrrgh!!
I'm glad the players are standing up for each other. But on the other hand fans can boo. That's what they do, either cheer or boo. The players are strong, they're very well paid and they can take it. And if they can't take it, then they can quit and go to work like the rest of us.
First this infield seems to be a mess. The reaity is that Mueller will most likely not be back next year since the Sox' priority is keeping Damon. That means Youk is the 3rd baseman of the future.
I'm glad he popped one into the Pesky Pole tonight. Still, maybe because of the knee surgery, he doesn't seem to be the hitter he once was. I think Youk deserves more time at 3rd.
That's if he approves of any rehab starts. Most likely he'll just keep wasting starts in Boston while "you know who" slowly creeps back into the division race.
Meredith has been fantastic at Portland and he only got called up to Pawtucket last week. Certainly seems like he was rushed up. And judging from the 2 BB and the slam, he must feel like he's a million miles from the Eastern League.
