  1. When the series ended Tek was the priority, and I'm still hoping something can be worked out. Fisk, I believe, was the same age as Varitek is when he left the Sox for the ChiSox. Tek has a long way to go to becoming another Fisk, but I do think his departure creates a huge hole for this team. His batting numbers may not be overwhelming, but he did hit 30 doubles and stole 10 bases and his value to the pitching staff is immense. And the way he jammed that punk a-rod turned the season around. He is the team leader and without him this will not be the same team. Mirabelli has proven to be a great backup, but can he catch over 130 games and still be productive?
  2. It's finally done. ESPN Radio reports the 3 hour surgery Tuesday went well with no complications. Rehab is expected to last 2 and a half months.
  3. I also have deep respect for Varitek. I don't trust Scott Boras.
  4. Does anyone know if stem cell research shows any promise for a cure for ALS?
  5. Randy Johnson had only two more wins than Derek Lowe this season. You don't think the Red Sox offense helped out Lowe? If RJ was in a Sox uniform he may have won 25 games. Additionally in his 15 no decisions this season Radke had a 2.47 ERA, including one stretch where he pitched three straight no decisions with 7 innings with 1 ER in each game. In Pavano's 14 losses and no decisions, he had a 3.95 ERA. With a team that averaged 5.85 runs per game over the last two seasons, yes I do believe Radke and/or Pavano could benefit from the Sox offense.
  6. I don't see Pavano or Radke as upgrades over Pedro, but if Pedro's demands are too high, then they are the alternative. Considering ther Sox scored 231 more runs than the Marlins and 169 more runs than the Twins, Pavano and Radke would benefit from more run support in Boston.
  7. If Pedro doesn't like it then so be it. I think this is still a little pricey, but with the way things worked out the Sox had to make a good offer. I think Pedro should stay and play out his career in Boston. But Theo is smart enough to just go out and get Pavano or Radke or both if Pedro walks and I'd be just as happy if he did.
  8. He crushed that ball. I think it was still going up when it hit the lights.
  9. Story link on the HR. http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news;_ylc=X3oD...ov=ap&type=lgns
  10. Papi hit it on a 3-0 count. I went back to listen to the radio broadcast on mlb.com and people were chanting "Let's go Red Sox" while he was hitting. It's a shame ESPN or FSN isn't picking up the games for TV.
  11. I don't see the Sox having much of an option here. They need to sign and hope there's enough money leftover. I do believe he is the best catcher to come along in Boston since Fisk. A long term deal can be worked out if Theo can keep some trade options in the future.
  12. I marked the one week anniverary by watching the tape and getting drunk again.
  13. R.I.P. Babe.
  14. After they year they had it's almost comcial that now they want to go after Nomar for 2nd base. Go ahead, pay him alot, and don't worry about the pitching.
  15. It's no secret, Tek is top priority. Then offer Pedro a three year deal, if he walks the Sox go after Radke and Pavano. Then I think they go after Mirabelli just because he's the guy who works with Wakefield, plus a solid bat that gives Tek the day off a catcher needs in a long season. They'll have to see how much Cabrera wants. I don't see the Sox going too high above the 6 mill he made this year, but they may not have a choice. Renteria will want big money, Nomar looks like a one year deal with the Cubs and Vizquel is liklely going to the White Sox. That only leaves Larkin who may be a good fit until Ramirez is ready in a year or two.
  16. Gammons was just on ESPN radio with Dan Patrick and said if the Sox lose Pedro they're going after Pavano and Radke.
  17. Forward By Julian Tavarez
  18. I came across this on Sports Illustrated.com's Truth and Rumor section. Red Sox GM Theo Epstein has told friends that if Pedro Martinez pushes too hard for a four-year deal, he'll look elsewhere and, in his words, "I'll just find two pitchers who at least show up on time." It's that kind of resolve that has the Yankees worried. -- Bergen Record
  19. I've heard a rumor that MLB wants the Sox and MFY to switch opening dates giving the Sox the home opener a week earlier to allow for national TV, however Steinbrenner is balking at the idea. Either way, I'm hoping my World Champs gear arrives by then so I can stay home and watch it all on TV.
  20. It's hard to believe they were a .500 team for most of the summer. They didn't win the division, yet they did pull it all together at the right time. Coming back from 0-3, and winning 8 straight against the teams with the best and second best records is an amazing accomplishment. I always though the '78 team was the best Red Sox team ever, but after this year the '04 Sox have to be number 1.
  21. It still seems like a dream. Now with the flood of World Series items on sale it is starting to sink in. I see alot of World Champs stuff under my Christmas tree this year.
  22. Morgan is a miracle worker and Schilling is a stud. No doubt number 38 will be fine in the spring.
  23. I watched it on ESPN News this morning, they flipped bewteen NESN and NECN coverage. I saw the K guys on a boat. Alot of fun to watch.
  24. This rivalry may now have a case of role reversal. Now it's the MFY who may be chasing the Sox, trying to make room in their already bloated payroll. Sox fans now feel vindicated and liberated from the MFY fans and all the trash they spew from their pie holes. This is a new world, winning against the MFY and in the World Series has freed us from alot of baggage and worry. We still hate them. The MFY are our chief rival and next year, Sox fans will be pumped up for every game.
  25. Tek is clearly the top priority. After him comes Pedro and I think after what happened the Sox need to make a legit offer to him, along with the assurances that he will be immortalized as a Sox legend if he plays out his career in Boston. Lowe unfortunately, I think will leave. His up and down seaosn does not justify big money, especially when we saw how he can pitch when his head is in the game. Still, he is a solid pitcher who does not get a sore arm. To take Lowe's place, I'd like to see Brad Radke from the Twins. Cabrera is an interesting situation. Already making 6 mill, how much will he demand to stay? He is not an elite shortstop, but proved to be reliable. I say the Sox go maybe just a little more than the 6 mill to keep him.
