  1. Papelbon needs to be closing. Not starting. Let this kid hurl gas for 3 outs.
  2. I think careful consideration has to be given to shutting him down. There must be something still wrong, and he either needs to work this out in the Pawtucket or just shut him down and save him for next year. This is no time for blind trust. He's not effective and getting into late August he cannot be allowed to keep hurting the team.
  3. Remlinger shouldn't even waste a seat on the plane for the roadtrip. The only thing that is of concern is Papelbon went down to close games and now he comes up to start? What's the plan with this kid? Is there a plan? Obviously Schilling isn't ready to start, and I'm beginning to question if he will now at all this year. It's time to get this rotation in order with 6 games with NY and 7 with Toronto next month.
  4. Both teams have Sept 5 off.
  5. Sure .500 would be acceptable, but 6 games between Detroit and KC, it's time to build on the lead. A split in Anaheim would be great.
  6. good sign this game was called. It didn't look good from the start and chances are both the Sox and Chicago won't have to replay it. Now it's on to the longest road trip of the season: 7-3 would be nice.
  7. This is starting to look alot like last year.
  8. it's not a mortal sin, it's a fact.
  9. and alot with two strikes also.
  10. Kaps and Graff getting big hits. This team is on a roll.
  11. I don't think Hansen is part of the FO's plans this fall as much as Papelbon. Tito said after his start against Minnesota that he and Theo talked earlier in the year about Papelbon going into the pen. The guy was an effective closer in college and while he's young he at least is mentally suited to come in and get outs. Back in '86 the Sox rushed up Calvin Schraldi out of Texas and he fell apart in the playoffs and was never the same again. Foulke is the key, and if not, cross your fingers with Papelbon.
  12. Where's Wallace, how about killing some time?
  13. That's the second time since he's been called up that he's hit into a bases-loaded, inning ending double play.
  14. Nice hustle by left fielder.
  15. Embree is the embedded Red Sox.
  16. it's remarkable how poor the Sox bullpen is.
  17. This article brought a smile to my face this Sunday morning. As the Sox made their playoff run last fall, I was constantly telling people about the significance of "The Stolen Base", along with everyone else. I now have a home jersey with #31 because of Dave Roberts.
  18. If he is DFA, he goes back to the Braves. Theo has had him on the roster for too long now not to leave him there and just give him back. Just three more weeks and then he can spend 2006 in Pawtucket.
  19. what a friggin' nightmare.
  20. what an incredible break for Boomer.
  21. paging the bullpen, someone warm up!!!
  22. I'm getting the Twins feed on MLB Extar Innings and the announcers are all over the Sox for having WS rings that are too big. It really sounded like sour grapes considering they gagged on the MFY's in the playoffs the last few years and won't get another sniff of a ring until a salary cap is put in place.
  23. Gotta love winning streaks in August.
