  1. The players home video offered something not seen before. The hour went so fast. It all turned on Dave Roberts stealing second base. That was as intense as baseball gets with Rivera trying to hold him on. Missing was any comments from the yankees players or even Torre about their collapse. Maybe over time they'll open up about it.
  2. Why is it they can still broadcast crappy reruns?
  3. What a testament to the morons at MLB who wanted to give the TV rights of the ALCS to a second rate cable network.
  4. I would have liked to see Youk put a knee down for Bartlett sliding into third.
  5. ESPN says Madden is now switching Shields with Kazmir for Thursday night. This could be a case of the Rays over-thinking a situation. Kazmir in Fenway may be just the thing the Sox need to break out of the hitting slump.
  6. This may be the last straw for Theo IF this story from Lobel is true. I remember his at bat in NY and I thought it was strange how he took 3 strikes. This is either an attack on Manny's character or he's bankrupt of any character. From Bostom.com blog: According to former WBZ sports director Bob Lobel, Manny Ramirez was fined a six-figure amount for his June altercation with Red Sox traveling secretary Jack McCormick -- and he wasn't happy about it. "Manny was fined six figures to go to a charity," Lobel said this morning on sports radio WEEI. "That got [Manny's] attention ... he became a petulant child by being punished. No matter what the crime was, pushing an employee, that was the issue ... he acted out [after they fined him]. They got his attention. He doesn't like to be punished in any way, shape, or form... " Lobel’s strong words didn’t stop there. He went on to say that there was a perception that in a pinch-hit at bat at Yankee Stadium on July 6 -- more than a week after the incident with McCormick -- Ramirez took three straight called strikes to send a message to the Sox. "The thing that most people are forgetting and haven't talked about is the strikeout in Yankee Stadium," Lobel said. "The bat on the shoulder for the three pitches from Mariano Rivera. That was a big [expletive] to the Red Sox after the fine. I'm just telling you ... there are things in the front office that are perceived ... I'm saying that there is a strong feeling that that [three-pitch strikeout] was the message to the Red Sox and it's a strong feeling that that's unacceptable ... there's a feeling that he didn't give it his all, let's put it that way ... I'm just saying the front office has not forgotten that moment. It's akin to Nomar sitting on the bench [in a game in which Derek Jeter dove into the stands at Yankee Stadium in 2004]. It's the same thing. It's an at-bat that resonated very strongly in the front office." During the All-Star break, Ramirez told the Boston Herald's Rob Bradford that he would like to stay in Boston after this season, but that if the team doesn't exercise the first of two one-year, $20 million options they have on Manny, he'll play elsewhere. "To be honest with you, I don't know, I want to stay in Boston, but I want to sit down after the season with ownership and see what my future is going to be in Boston," he said. "If they don't pick it up, I'm a free agent and I'll go play somewhere else." Ramirez added that holding court with the Sox' executives is important to him because "I want to know what's my situation. I want no more [expletive] where they tell you one thing and behind your back they do another thing. I think I've earned that respect, for a team to sit down with me and tell me this is what we want, this is what we want to do." Responding to Ramirez's comments via e-mail to Bradford the next day, Sox owner John Henry wrote, "I find remarks that we have been anything other than completely straightforward to be personally offensive. Manny has been a crucial part of two world championships. I do not believe we would have won either without him. He has never played a more important role than he has thus far this year."
  7. This Manny being Manny business is getting ridiculous. He has to be held accountable for his actions regardless of how well he plays. From the Projo Sox Blog: BY SEAN McADAM Journal Sports Writer HOUSTON -- Maybe it's something in the water in Houston. Days after Houston Astros pitcher Shawn Chacon tackled general manger Ed Wade in the home clubhouse at Minute Maid Park, the visitors clubhouse was the scene of another player-club employee altercation Saturday afternoon. Manny Ramirez shoved Red Sox traveling secretary Jack McCormick to the ground in an argument over Ramirez' ticket allotment. Several onlookers moved quickly to separate the two. Ramirez had asked McCormick for 16 tickets for Saturday night's Red Sox-Astros game, an unusually high number for day-of-game. In addition to handling all travel details for clubs, traveling secretaries also take player ticket requests for both home and away games. When McCormick cautioned Ramirez that he might not be able to fulfill his request, Ramirez responded by shouting: "Just do your job!" An argument ensued and Ramirez pushed McCormick, sending him to the ground. Later, the two met behind closed doors and Ramirez apologized to McCormick, who accepted the gesture. No further disciplinary action is expected against Ramirez. Asked on Sunday to comment on the altercation, Ramirez responded: "That's over. We're fine now." "Sometimes things happen," said Terry Francona, "and when they do, we choose to handle them internally. I'm satisfied with how we handled this." Added McCormick: "It was an unfortunate misunderstanding and it's over with as far as I'm concerned."
  8. Lopez is much better when he gets ahead in the count. He nutted up for a change.
  9. After all these years, I don't understand how a Sox pitcher can still try and pitch Giambi down and in.
  10. I never thought Snyder belonged on this team. I hope Lopez is the next to go; I'm tired of watching him coming in and walking hitters.
  11. The Sox are working within the framework of the agreemenat reached with MLBPA. Now all of a sudden the Sox have to go beyond that, when the reverse would be unthinkable. It seems to me Paps should not be invoking Rivera's name until he gets many years of success under his belt. There is a structure to this and it rewards players who can succeed over a number of years. Paps needs to accept that, work at it and speak up when it is his turn.
  12. That's a lot of money for a guy to walk lefthanded hitters.
  13. The Pirates are listening to offers for Marte and Yes last night sais the yanks are interested. A hard throwing lefty reliever like Marte is someone I would prefer to see the Sox go after.
  14. I hope Boras gets 1%.
  15. Boston Herald By Michael Silverman | Tuesday, December 4, 2007 | http://www.bostonherald.com | Boston Red Sox Photo by AP File NASHVILLE -- The Red Sox [team stats] and Twins will resume “serious negotiations” later this morning on a blockbuster deal that would bring ace Johan Santana to the Red Sox, according to a baseball source involved in the negotiations. The package of players the Twins would receive is still in flux and there are two packages under discussion, with still varying mixes of players in each. The first deal would include left-hander Jon Lester [stats] and center fielder Coco Crisp [stats], the other one is headed by center field prospect Jacoby Ellsbury. The Twins are still deciding which one they prefer. The Red Sox have successfully held the line on not including Ellsbury in a package with either Lester or Clay Buccholz, their other top starter.
  16. It's looking like a strange night. I'm going to bed, I just hope Ellsbury is still a Red Sox when I wake up in the morning.
  17. The sales of those "nightshirts" by MLB help pay for Watson's overblown salary. This is as dumb a rule as there is in sports. There is no rational reason for any coach to have a uniform and a number on his back. I hope Tito wears the jacket and let the bat boys wear the "nightshirts" in protest all year.
  18. I would feel good about getting Haren. This Santana business is getting silly.
  19. WEEI says a Minneapolis TV station is reporting that Theo is pressing the Twins to do the deal before the GM meetings next week.
  20. I like that deal. DO IT!!!
  21. I don't like the start with 2 in Japan and then in Oak. Good news is only two west coast trips after that and before August. The best month I see is August, KC, Chi, Bal, Oak.
  22. Not only are the Sox better, so are the Guardians.
