  1. Get a load of this. We had Radke and then lost him. Thsi may explain wy Theo is making the run at Wells. In today's ProJo: According to the St. Paul Pioneer Press, Brad Radke -- a mainstay of the Twins' pitching staff since 1995 -- was set to sign with the Red Sox Tuesday night. And then Twins' pitching coach Rick Anderson stepped in. According to the newspaper, Radke was prepared to accept a three-year offer from Boston when he received a phone call from Anderson. They reported the conversation went thusly: Anderson: "Hey Rad, what's going on? You sign [with the Twins] yet?" Radke: "No." Anderson: "Why not?" Radke: "They're not giving me what I want." Anderson: "What are they offering?" Radke: "Eight-something." (More than $8 million.) Anderson: "Well, what do you want? Nine? ($9 million.)" Radke: "Uh, yeah." Anderson: "Nine a year is a go?" Radke: "Yeah." Anderson: "I'll call you back." The newspaper reported that Anderson then telephoned Minnesota general manager Terry Ryan and told him Radke would sign for two years at $9 million per year. Ryan agreed, but said the contract could contain no incentives. Anderson called Radke back. Anderson: "Nine a year, but you've got to dump the incentives." Radke: "I don't know . . . " Anderson: "Come on Rad, what the heck!" Radke: "Awwww, all right." And the deal was done. When it was over, Radke called Ryan and thanked him for allowing him to stay in Minnesota, which is where he wants to play. "That was kind of fun," Anderson told the Pioneer Press. "I think it's kind of cool. I'd never been involved in anything like that. I'm sure I didn't have a lot of tact."
  2. ESPN is now reporting, according to Gammons that the offer to Wells is for 2 years and 16 mill.
  3. This is a dumb idea. I live and breathe this team every day of the year. I don't need a card, just my old beat up Sox hat and my brand new World Champions gear.
  4. Wells did pitch a good game this year at Fenway against the Sox in 2004, but still this is a "bargain basement" signing for one year and I think it does mean they can't get Pavano, especially with Pedro coming back. I hate to see this team patch together a roster to defend a world title. They had better reel in Tek now and settle the shortstop position.
  5. Theo sticks to his guns. No one was giving him a 4 year deal, and once he realized that, then Pedro comes back to Boston, the only city that will truly embrace him.
  6. True they are no risk moves, but they do take up spots on the roster, or do we pay millions for guys to play in Pawtucket like BK Kim.
  7. First we get Bausher and now Mantei? Mantei's had both his elbow and shoulder cut. How about signing some quality free agents or maybe getting a shortstop before we chase after Rule 5 players and banged up pitchers.
  8. I was a little funny. I, however do look at my World Champions hat everyday and smile.
  9. Usually in a client/agent relationship it's the client who's the boss, but in sports it sometimes seems like it's the other way around. I can almost imagine Boras telling Tek he can't take less money because he'd be letting down all the other catchers coming up behind him and he needs to set the new standard. I'm sure Boras has Tek convinced he's negociating for the greater good. The problem is I don't think it works as well with millionaire ballpalyers as it does with coal miners and auto workers.
  10. 16 mill a yr. for another two years (he wants a 1 yr. extension) is alot, plus giving up Lester and Arroyo. On the other hand, it keeps RJ out of pinstripes where he could shut down the Sox left handed hitters, and puts the Sox in the next two World Series. Still, in the end, I think the Cards may work out a deal for RJ.
  11. There's no 4th year coming from Theo, even as an option. If the Mets want to spend the dough then we have to let Pedro go. There are still plenty of good pitchers out there for the cash the Sox will save.
  12. This is really no surprise. I plan to see most games next year on the road.
  13. NY TImes says Pedro wants 4 years/60 mill. http://www.boston.com/sports/baseball/reds..._year_60m_deal/ If this is true then it's all in Steinbrenner's court. No way the Sox give in to a deal like that.
  14. That is great!!!!

  16. From what I'm reading, Pedro's agent set up this meeting. At this point I think it has to be looked at as a negociating ploy, and I don't think Theo will blink first.
  17. I still want to see Pedro stay. As for the Pavano or Radke situation I prefer Radke just because he's an American League pitcher and his numbers don't benefit from facing pitchers. Schilling is the exception but usually National League pitchers suffer when they come over and have to face a DH, such as Vasquez.
  18. Big Papi is THE MAN. He seemed to be the one hitter in the lineup who did not slump in any of the three series. His hits and HR's picked up the Sox when they needed it most.
  19. From todays Herald: From what I saw this season, I don't see how he's earned another tour as third base coach. From testing the strong arm of Baldelli to sending guys home with one out and even with no outs (Damon in 1st inning of Game 7 of the ALCS) his judgement is among the worst in baseball.
  20. I don't like Schneider for two players and I don't like giving up Youk. This should be a one for one trade. Schneider is a very good defensive catcher. It's also good to put a little pressure on Boras. Now he has to shop around for his 5 year, 50 mill plus, no trade deal, while Tek realizes the Sox will move on without him.
  21. I've heard this rumor also. The problem with it is that Arizona wants youth and is probably not interested in paying any high salaries.
  22. I would like to think is a negociating tactic by Theo. I would like to think the Sox are not giving up.
  23. Millar can be a very good hitter at Fenway and when he's in a groove can pile up RBI's. But over the course of a season it has to be ManK. And with pitching and defense being the priorities, ManK has to be the choice for Theo.
  24. I have a bad feeling history is about to repeat itself. 1980 was Carlton Fisk's last season with the Red Sox, he hit .289 with 18 homers and 62 RBI. This year Varitek hit .296 with 18 homers and 73 RBI.
  25. There's no way Shoppach is ready. This season in Pawtucket he hit .233 with 138 K's in 113 games. He averaged a strikeout for every 3 at bats. I'm also not sold on Mirabelli going a full season at 130+ games. Tek can go somewhere else and have his numbers sink, but what will he care? He'll have his 5 year deal and the Sox will be left with a huge hole to fill. Tek's leadership and presence have to be measured here. Did the loss of Pudge affect the Marlins pitching staff as well as their lineup this season? They had to go out and trade for Laduca midseason. I don't know what the answer is, but is there any question that Boras is the problem?
