  1. I think Gammo has become nothing but a sounding board for GM’s to bounce trade ideas around the league. Whenever they want to test the waters on a particular player, I think they secretly contact him and have him float the trade idea out there and see what kind of reception it gets. Sorry for the OT rant .. The Sox could really use a Smoltz now but only if it doesn’t involve trading away any top prospects. No doubt his price tag would be huge as pitching is an expensive commodity, so I think his coming to Boston is very unlikely.
  2. With Kapler back from the DL I’m wondering what kind of role Harris will have. A utility outfielder might be useful until we know for sure that Kapler is fully recovered, but I see him as nothing but a waste of a roster spot now. Without options it’s difficult to move him other than hoping he’ll clear waivers and accept a minor league assignment.
  3. Can you supply a link? I couldn't find it either.
  4. What about Phil Seibel? I noticed his start scheduled on the Saturday doubleheader was scratched. Is it possible he might get called up to pitch Monday?
  5. Rotoworld’s take on Snyder isn’t exactly positive:
  6. f***in balk and then the base hit.
  7. Beckett with the RBI...sweet.
  8. He’s not starting due to a sore knee.
  9. Youk with a leadoff HR!!
  10. Any idea how the Sox will make room on the roster to bring up another starter (Snyder, maybe)? Clement was put on the DL to make room for Kapler so there are only 11 pitchers right now. Willie Harris might be the likely choice be he’s out of options.
  11. Maybe the Sox want to get a good look at what Snyder can offer by throwing into a game situation. Unless he overwhelms, I wouldn’t be surprised to see him optioned back to AAA soon after his start.
  12. I heard that Manny won’t be in the lineup today, due to a sore knee. Youk will be in LF today and batting 1st. Ortiz at 1B. Edit to add the Sox lineup: LF Kevin Youkilis 2B Mark Loretta 1B David Ortiz RF Trot Nixon C Jason Varitek 3B Mike Lowell CF Covelli Crisp SS Alex Gonzalez RHP Josh Beckett
  13. Not that it’s a big shocker but I noticed this on Rotoworld from yesterday:
  14. Something positive to build on: that’s exactly what was needed before last night’s game began and Lester delivered big time. We’ve been reading how good he is and how un-tradable he is, and I think last night we finally got to see he’s as good as advertised. I’m so glad that the Sox didn’t trade their best prospect and I feel we’re all fortunate because we get this opportunity now to see him develop. The past 2 wins for the Sox have come at the hands of MDC and Lester. I for one am glad the farmhands are now getting their chance to shine. Yeah there will be stumbling blocks in this learning experience as they adjust to the ML. But I’m looking at 2006 as the year that Youk has come into his own, that Paps is leading the league in saves, and now Lester showing he deserves a rightful place in the rotation.
  15. Voy a golpear la mierda fuera de este b?isbol.
  16. Good AB for Lowell and nice slide by Trot.
  17. Papi’s K was a joke. I hope Lester gets the benefit of the same strike zone.
  18. The Sox can use the extra bat with some power on the bench so I’m glad to see Gabe back. I wonder how Kyle Snyder will work out. Looks like he’ll have options so I like the flexibility.
  19. In some respect I think the converse is true. Because of the inconsistency of the starting pitching and the inability to go at least 7 innings, this has caused an extra burden on the bullpen. The pen arms are seeing more work than maybe they should. JMO…
  20. The timing of interleague play for the Sox couldn’t come at a worse time, with the offense struggling as it has. Taking a bat out of the lineup doesn’t bode well so let’s hope for a strong outing from Lester.
  21. Overall I’m unimpressed for what’s out there for pitching right now. Any “big name” player will come with a price tag that is outrageous. I’m hoping as we get deeper into the weeks before the trading deadline some more appealing names will become available. The Arroyo trade right now looks bad, but the book is still open on that one. I’m letting it go, moving on, and looking for names that can help now. I see no reason to bring this up at this point, unless you want to try to make a case that Theo doesn’t do a good job in evaluating pitching. And as we’ve seen this argument can go either way. I was looking over some of the past threads and the name Oliver Perez jumps out again. His overall value has dropped over the past two years, but I still see some upside: a fairly young powerful lefty who could fill a role in the rotation, not too expensive, and I don’t think he’d be too intimated in the AL.
  22. Sox lineup tonight 1. Kevin Youkilis, 1B 2. Alex Cora, 2B 3. David Ortiz, DH 4. Manny Ramirez, LF 5. Trot Nixon, RF 6. Mike Lowell, 3B 7. Coco Crisp, CF 8. Doug Mirabelli, C 9. Alex Gonzalez, SS Loretta doesn't start and Cora is batting 2nd. IMO this might have been a good opportunity for Trot to hit in the #2 spot.
  23. I heard that too. The Red Sox didn’t want to trade Seanez because they feel he can turn it around and still be an important part of the pen this year.

  25. Saw this on Rotoworld: Isn't there bad blood between RJ and Perez?
