  1. Manny could veto any trade due to his 10/5 status. “Something reasonable” at this point would be accepting a hometown discount which seems unlikely unless Manny REALLY wants to stay in Boston. Last year he wanted to be traded. This year he wants to stay. (Kind of reminds me of the Clash song “Should I Stay Or Should I Go”.) I hope this isn’t just lip service and he truly wants to stay, because I’d really like to see him finish his career in Boston.
  2. I’d pick Mike Lowell for the person who I had the most doubts. When the Sox acquired him I had the perception he was “extra baggage” as part of the Beckett trade. 2005 must have been an aberration as he’s turned it around big time this year. He’s a classy guy who doesn’t seem bothered at all by the limelight of playing in Boston. With what his veteran presence has added to the team, along with the numbers he’s put up so far, I’m starting to forget about Bill Mueller.
  3. Good luck to the Mets on their next series, at the Toilet.
  4. Have you ever seen a more sound and efficient group than the Sox right now? Tonight’s game was textbook with all the plays done right, culminating in Coco’s unbelievable catch. Are these guys playing over their heads now or is this team the real deal?
  5. If there’s such a thing as a clutch defensive play, Coco’s diving save would have to be one.
  6. This would have to go down as one of the best games this year.
  7. Time to score some runs so Curt can get a W. I doubt he comes back in for the 8th.
  8. Thank you Loretta for breaking up the no hitter.
  9. I don’t see the Sox extending his contract right now. He’s signed through 2008 with 2009-10 club options for about $20M per year. Not to mention that his contract is back-ended with about $30M due by the end of 2026. Given the way the Sox FO likes to have players play out their contract, I’d be really surprised to see any action until November 2008.
  10. I’m sure he’d miss the $75,000 All Star incentive built into his contract. If he’s sore and if he or the Sox think that time off can help, then why should he play in a game that really means nothing? As a fan it wouldn’t bother me at all to see him sit it out.
  11. Curt is do for a win after three quality starts resulting in ND’s.
  12. I said this as well in the other WMP thread, that this is basically the best opportunity the Sox will have this year to work on WMP’s hitting and fielding. He wasn’t really expected to add that much to this year’s team makeup as he was picked for his future potential. If the Sox do decide to work on his fielding at 1B then Pawtucket is the best place for that in particular.
  13. Enough can’t be said about Beckett’s performance tonight. He did have the early lead so that might have let up some of the pressure, but with all of the hype and emotion of this particular game, he rose to the challenge, stayed focused, and was strong. Beckett’s outing, along with how Lester nutted up and handled last night, pitching out of the bases loaded jams is a very big positive.
  14. And who would have thought that Darren Oliver is 3-0 with a 2.40 ERA? I remember when he sucked so bad he was released by the Sox.
  15. Who would have thought that Pedro would be getting his ass kicked?
  16. For your reading pleasure I found a couple of articles that put the BDD booing ******** to shame: http://news.bostonherald.com/localRegional/view.bg?articleid=145936 http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2502602 http://espn-att.starwave.com/photo/2006/0628/mlb_pedro_ortiz_275.jpg
  17. Mike Lowell could be added to that list too. I think his veteran presence has been a real plus. Do you notice how he comes to the mound when the younger pitchers, including Beckett, get into trouble? Without referring to stats I believe his presence has been key to the great infield defense. He’s a heads up player who anticipates what‘s going to happen before it does.
  18. I sort of hope Timlin doesn’t get picked. It would be entertaining to see Timlin pitch in the AS game, but in the long run the rest could do him good. The downtime in the middle of the season could keep his arm fresher for when the games really matter. Sort of the same argument could be made for Tek appearing also.
  19. But I wouldn’t have expected that kind of truth coming from a Yankee ball washing network like YES.
  20. The YES network has a video of David Justice speaking about Arod’s lack of timely hitting. For a “YES-man” I was surprised that someone on their network would be so critical and candid. Here’s the link to their video page, and the segment is under the 6/27 DJ’s Take: http://www.yesnetwork.com/media/index.jsp
  21. The fact that he chose not to come to Boston this year, after all the hype, doesn’t help Roger’s cause. I think more fans feel spurned by him: saying he’ll retire and he doesn’t, playing for the MFY, and then rejecting this year and all.. I’m sure opinions would be a LOT different if the Sox had won the WS in ‘86.
  22. I’m still waiting for BDD to close down his site. Didn’t he say he would if Arod never came to the Sox?
