  1. So is this a good trade for the Red Sox? I don't know enough about Javier Lopez to comment, but I do know that Tito seemed to avoid Riske like the plague.
  2. I posted this in today's game thread but ... Just announced on WEEI: Riske traded to White Sox for Javier Lopez
  3. Just announced on WEEI: Riske traded to White Sox for Javier Lopez. Should be available for tonight's game.
  4. If it's true that Tracey was demoted to AAA by Ozzie because he didn't hit Blalock then commissioner's office should investigate. Not likely however because the commissioner is the biggest joke in baseball and it would be very difficult to prove.
  5. This game has to go down in Sox history as one of the worst pitched games ever. 10 walks, 0 K’s, and 1 HBP
  6. Every time I look at a new lineup the first thing I check out is where Youk is batting. Good move Youks leading off. The Sox were leading the league in runs scored in May. In June they rank 11th as of today.
  7. Too bad for us because he is a good writer and I’ve enjoyed his work immensely. Too bad for the Globe because talented young, local writers like him with a promising future don’t come around very often. You gotta give the guy props. Only 24 and he’s already moved from a beat writer of one of the best newspapers in the country to a big position in hockey. I’m not sure of his credentials as far as hockey goes, but I’m sure he’ll do well.
  8. It’s like a broken record playing the same song over and over, Francona lets his veteran players continue to struggle in game situations and seems to turn a blind eye to their current performance. Being the player’s manager that he is, he gives the veterans every possible chance in game situations. Neither of the veterans (Tavarez and Seanez) have shown lately that once they get into trouble, they can rely on their "experience" and to stop any bleeding. On the flip side, he seems to have little confidence in the rookies (except Paps) and has an extremely short leash with them. Maybe Tito is still feeling gun-shy for using Cla Meredith the way that he did and now is taking it to the other extreme. This philosophy is frustrating, especially when Theo himself has said that he intends to use the Sox organizational depth to find answers to the pitching situation.
  9. I also noticed the Rotoworld comments about Coco and thought they were a bit "harsh" on Francona: I do have to agree with this point however.
  10. Given the money owed to Tavarez and his poor performance, he's basically worth nothing as a trade. Instead of eating all of the money owed to him and DFA'ing him, he should be relegated to mop up duty. As far as Seanez, trade or dump him as well. Free up a roster spot and put Hansen in there for now. I'd rather watch the rookies get their feet wet and gain the experience than watch these mediocre veterans struggle and cough up wins.
  11. I have to wonder what MDC and JVB need to prove to Tito to gain his trust, to be used in high leverage situations.
  12. I still can‘t believe the Twins new park will be an open air, given how s***** the weather is there in early spring.
  13. Foulke: right elbow tendonitis Clement: right arm spasms Timlin: shoulder stiffness/dead arm Riske: lower back pains DiNardo: neck strain Holtz: left elbow strain To reiterate a point I made earlier I firmly believe that the Sox pitching coaches are in part responsible for these injuries. Whether it’s a conditioning issue or just bad luck, there is little to support that Nipper and Co are getting the most out of the pitching staff. Overall, it seems that the coaching situation has something to do with the pitching troubles this year. I thought the Nipper promotion was done in haste earlier this year. Maybe I’m overlooking something here, but what pitcher has actually improved under his tutelage? It's probably impossible to objectively measure the coaching staff's effectiveness, but based on what I’ve seen the Sox are near the bottom half of the league when it comes to working with pitchers.
  14. Remy was interviewed on WEEI today and he said that JVB is with the team right now on the road. Strong speculation that Foulke is headed for the DL.
  15. A blogger uses amateur means to come up with Knoblauch as one of the redacted names on Grimsley’s affidavit. Link http://cullengarvey.blogspot.com/2006/06/did-grimsley-name-chuck-knoblauch-in.html
  16. As an obvious side note, the bench is very weak offensively. WMP, get well soon!
  17. I found this article with a video that has Bradshaw warning Ben about the dangers back in May 2005. Here's the link http://www.thepittsburghchannel.com/sports/4494368/detail.html
  18. Does anyone know if there are terms in his contract that would have forbid him in engaging in activities like riding a motorcycle (without a helmet)? I remember when Aaron Boone blew out his ACL playing basketball while on the Yankees payroll. Apparently this violated the terms of his contract and he was summarily released by the team.
  19. I kind of agree with yesterday’s second game lineup was similar to a split squad spring training lineup. I think that there are some games that come up throughout the season where factors like scheduling, player availability, and injuries dictate how the lineup is put together. The manager puts a lineup together that is obviously inferior to the A lineup, and kind of hopes for the best. I think there is some kind of thinking that “you can’t win them all” but the hope is that maybe you’ll get lucky and still pull out a win. If this had been a playoff game you know that Harris and Snow wouldn’t be starting. But I think that Tito’s thinking was this particular game wasn’t THAT important. It does suck that there are a handful of throwaway games every season , especially when one win can make the difference in September.
  20. One factor that seems to never gets touched upon with all of the discussion of the pitchers is the coaching staff, and in particular Nipper. IMO the types of injuries, other than Boomer’s, all seem like a possible byproduct of poor conditioning. I can’t believe I’m saying this but I miss Joe Kerrigan. BTW, when is Wallace due to come back?
  21. Is this official yet? I thought they were going to wait until Tuesday.
  22. Your post really says it well. My impression of Pauley is that Sox management wasn’t as concerned about his psyche as they are Lester’s. So in terms of bringing him up before he was ready, it was less of a risk if Pauley struggled and failed than Lester. The good news is the kid did show composure, but his lack of experience was obvious as well.
  23. If and when Boomer comes back, and until Clement can pull his head out of his ass and decide to pitch again, then we’re going to have to rely on Pauley and Lester.
  24. At least Tito had the quick hook tonight.
  25. I wonder how different Pauley’s outing would have been if the team could have given him some run support.
