Rafaela’s weaknesses are more glaring than most others. Everyone can improve but most of the guys aren’t stupid on the basepaths and have a better idea of the K zone. He stands out as lacking in those areas.

Raffy is the least out of our problems after seeing the 3 hitters we sent up in the 9th.  Probably the easiest save of Bednar’s career

It could get worse if there is no baseball and he leaves as a FA after that. He has been a total bust so far

yeah, i've always felt like they gave up waaay too much for him. especially considering his injury history.

I didn’t think I’d ever say it but this team needs Story.  The 3 scrubs we put up there in the 9th were an embarrassment for a team thinking they can compete

I've given up on Story and I suspect the Sox have too.   In the spring he played in 41 games with an OPS of .547.   Last year he finished with a respectable .741 OPS but was lousy in April and May.   My guess is he has been healthy for at least a month.  And don't forget that at $25M his salary is easily the highest among the Sox hitters/fielders.  He gets the same $25M next season.  Not a good hire by CB.

Those 3 scrubs did not worse tha Contreras and Rutschman, who both had 2 K's and no hits in 4 AB's.

The Yankees team ERA, 3.24 (not including tonight's shutout), is easly the best in MLB.  The ERA's of the  Yankees pitchers in the game are 2.09, 1.86, 1.67, 2.31.

Actually it was a loss.
To the Yankmees.

I said that.  The Yankees have the 2d best W-L record in the AL.  The Sox and Yankees play in the AL East, which again has the best won-lost record of the six MLB Divisions.

The Yankees have easily the lowest ERA in MLB and their starter tonight, Schlittner, has the 3d best ERA among MLB starters.

Goldschmidt's dinger was off a sinker at the bottom of the strike zone.

It was the 4 & 5 batters. They weren't rope-a-doped, they were both knocked out with a good right.

Typical.  Very well said.

Raffy is only Fred's problem.

10th in MLB fWAR but his plate discipline is more important.

He's even top 3rd in batting:

113 wRC+ is 82nd out of 273 batters with 250+ PAs (9 players per team)

.778 OPS is 81st

5th in DRS among all position players in MLB. (Abreu is #1.)

Somehow being 9th worst in BB/K makes him a bad offensive player.

Story stinks worse than the scrubs. He’s toast

And his base running. But of course you never mention that.

He has been outstanding this yesr

He’s been good but there are some areas of glaring weakness. If he could fix them he’d be a superstar. He’s not close to that yet.

Brayan Bello 0 42 0 0 0 42
Aroldis Chapman 15 18 0 0 0 33
Alec Gamboa 0 0 20 0 0 20

Again I say this is a simple but very useful chart.  Tonight Weissert threw 5 pitches, Guerrero 6, and Olds 11.

Tomorrow the double-header (but stands are cleared between games).

The Yanks playing THUR night and the Sox not could give us an edge.

I think we'll see...

gm 1 Bennett v Rodan

gm 2 Opener> Bello vs Fried

Sunday Suarez v Warren

nonetheless he is way down the list of our concerns.  find another whipping boy.  Start with AR.

AR hasn’t been given enough time to get his act together. He was on the IL for an extended period of time. Once/if Story get here he’s fair game for criticism. Duran has been improving. He sucked for a long time. I’ll continue to present a fair and balanced assessment of Rafaela’s performance.

Double-headers were a great thing of the past. You could watch 2 games for the price of one.

Now they should be referred to as day/night games. Double-header shouldn't even be used in the description.

I would have held Rafaela. Not his fault. That ball was too shallow. Good effort by him.

With no outs, yes.  With one out you send him.  Bellinger had to thread a crazy needle to get him out there…

Now up to 17 innings of 0 for all RISP

Not technically true. (White got a hit with RISP last night, for example.  Just not a run-scoring one.)

No runs scored, but that’s not the same…

Very tough loss, but nice pitching.

Pitching was great.

Offense was weak.

Rafaela’a baserunning is being overblown.  Bellinger made a remarkable throw to get him at the plate.

I do think Tracy overmanaged.  I get pinch hitting Jones for Gasper.  But White for Duran?  Didn’t Duran’s last AB vs a LHP result in a grand slam?  Monasterio for Seigler is a toss up…

Duran has more rbi's 9th inning or later than anyone in the league, so yeah....lets pinch hit White for him. Tracy definitely effed that one up.
