So, now it's the Phillies. The Phils started off terribly, and have since picked up the pace. Does anyone know who's going for the Sox today?

Gray last pitched on May 6th, so he should be fine to start. (Extra day of rest)

Bennett pitched on the 7th, so today would be his normal 5 day start.

Bello pitched okay on May 5th.

It's going to be an Opener followed by Bello. Gray tomorrow and Suarez on Thursday.

Are they easing Gray back into the every 5 day rotation?

I think Bennet could have started today and been his 5th day, so they might be babying him.

Only found quotes from Tracy about the Bello and Suarez games. Didn't hear anything about Gray being delayed or them just adjusting the rotation.

Starters in the minors pitch once a week(6 days rest).  This is mostly because minor league teams play 6 game sets against one opponent Tuesday through Sunday.  All Mondays are a day off.  So moving to the 4 days rest is a big adjustment for them.

Bennett is fine, but I don't think he needs to be up in MLB this year. Sox need to see if they can get Bello rolling since they signed him to a horrible extension.

I'm not sure Bennett is better than a pen game. I was just saying who coulda started.

I might have gone with Gray on 1 extra day of rest.

Is it really a pen game if Bello is going to throw 80+ pitches anyway? It's just throwing guys out of order.

The fact that Bello needs an opener to address his 1st inning difficulties is a strong indicator that he is not capable of dealing with  being a professional.   To the extent that it works, so be it and congrats if we win.  It does provide backing to the multi-year thought that Bello is not  able to deal with adversity or pressure.

Good luck to him and the team to get a win

Modern batting lineup theory states that the best hitter on your team should bat second.   Whether that determination  is based on power power, BA, OBP, OPS or War ratings , who knows  ?

But the fact that on Breslow's Red Sox this position is listed today as Mickey Gasper is a revelation.   Gasper  does have a bit of a hot bat, by Sox standards, right now  and is only there because Contreras got hit in the hand doesn't diminish Mickey's ascent to baseball nirvana.     I hope he hits 1 more HR tonight than does Schwarber.

The idea was to flip some of the platoon bats AND get him to face the top of the order less. Moran struggled with that last time and got lit up. It worked for Bello. What's Bernardino up to?

Four batters in today's line-up are in the .500s, one is at .619 and another was at Woo a few days back.

It's hard to muster up any feeling of hope, but I'll be watching again, tonight.

Me also. Hey, the Sox are still in the wild card hunt.

Didn't he open for Bello the last time?

Yep.  Also finished Sunday’s game pitching 1 1/3 innings.  But he only threw 16 pitches so it’s probably not a big deal..

It’s a lefty righty thing for sure.

Just needs to do better than the last time he opened.

The one thing I kinda got right about the off season and this season, so far is the point that the AL is not strong, this year, and maybe we could still make the playoffs without being all that good.

That's not something I cheer for or am happy about, but it is more fun watching any of my favorite teams knowing they have a shot at making the playoffs, where to some extent, it's a crap shoot.

(Note: I'm not a big believer in the crapshoot philosophy, but  longshots do get hot at the right time, occasionally.)

Wheeler's not the type to give up many runs, especially against this Sox line-up. Hope I'm wrong.

I will say, we seem to do better in games we go into with lesser hopes.
