I wanna flip the conversation if I may.  Not who we protecting. Thats boring (no offense).  WHo we getting?

Nobody. We like out-of-options guys like Criswell, Wink and Moran too much to make room for one.

It's not uncommon to hear different names from different people and sources.

Haven't heard much of Drohan.

Nothing on Bleis or Hickey- for good reason.

Teams passed on Guerrero, already, so he's a no go.

So, Sandlin...

Borderlines:

Mullins, Monegro, Drohan & maybe Rivera or Song?

Drohan was not protected in a previous season (to manys surprise) and was taken and returned like song. But drohan had a very good year in aaa last year and is 26 so could easily get drafted due to age and aaa season (showing ml readiness)

He entered my personal radar because i have a lot of friends who went to florida st and are fans.

Another question is who gets traded or DFA'd to add 1-2 players?

An out-of-options player?

Criswell was just signed.

Wink or Moran? (Trade?)

Lowe (non tender?)

Grissom

Players with options?

Sogard or Eaton? (Probably not if Grissom goes.)

Kelly or Murphy (likely not DFA'd)

My guess:

Lowe (non tender) for Sandlin

If we protect a second, it might be Grissom traded or DFA'd.

I'm not sure I'd be all that bothered, if someone took him. I see 5-6 guys I'd rather be starting at WOO than him, but maybe he'll pull a Priester on us.

If they are protecting Sandlin:

Winck DFA

If they protect pitcher #2

Moran DFA

I'd like to see them protect Song. He flashed really good stuff at each level and looks like a legit contributor out of the pen moving forward.

I'd like to see him make the RS after his commitment held him back and after DD screwed him over by claiming him.  But I wouldn't add him to the 40.  I seriously doubt anyone would put in a claim.

I kinda like Moran more than a few others, but the no options thing hurts.

Looks like Wink and Lowe are both gone.  Wink should be claimed by someone like the Nats, the Angels, or WS.  No one will claim Lowe.

Chris Cotillo is the only one reporting the Winckowski rumor.

If true, Sandlin is most likely protected and that's that for today.

I think Wink gets claimed, unlike Guerrero, who was then traded due to no need to take a 40 man slot anymore.

I'd rather have had him in AAA than Tristan Gray, I think. 🫠

Now watch Gray be Romy 2.0. If he's just Nate Eaton, it's not worth it.

He's cheaper than Lowe. I hope he's not the fall back guy to a Casas-Romy Plan A.

A 30 year old part timer who has been with 6 orgs. You are worried about him being the fallback plan?

He's a 40 man roster guy, so is he just minor league depth? (Toro's replacement?) Seems like a waste of a 40 man slot. That's why I suggested he may be DFA'd again.

Get on my page and just offer 10 out of the 40 men on our 40 man roster for Corbin Carroll, Marte, and Gabe the Babe Moreno

Logjam cleared.

I thought guererro was going to be part of our pen this year. This whole thing is confusing to me.

Just swapping Lowe's positional spot for now. Better for the roster than Grissom. Probably on Sogard or Eaton's level. Maybe higher?

He couldn't throw strikes.

I think that's how they see it. Improve where you can and see what comes down the pike.

That's 1/3 of our pitchers, but seriously, he did get real bad.

Consider this, though, 2022>>> minors BB%:

14.7 Guerrero

14.0 Kelly

13.3 Drohan (some want him added)

12.4 Murphy (out of options)

11.8 Ort (hung on for a long time and stayed in the bigs)

Wasnt he up like 2 years ago and effective in a small sample and then he got hurt?  Understood if Im thinking of the right guy, its old news.  BUt still, not super common to see a 25 yr old get DFA'd like that who was pitching out of the pen effectively in 2024.  But Im not crying about it.

Took 4 hours to disprove this.

Moran is long odds to survive until March as well…

Get rid of Wong and just have Schwarber catch 30% and DH 70%

You really don’t value defense, do you?

Well, not cleared.  Just relocated to AZ.

Who gets the job of pressing  the gun at Mike Haden’s temple until he accepts that deal?

I wouldn’t let Kennedy do it; he’s just as likely to press the handle of the gun as he is the barrel…

I am sure these teams will watch film on Sandlin. If you watch film from the first have of 2025, Sandlin looks great.
if you look at film of Sandlin from the back half of the year, Sandlin is a train wreck!

how can any team justify keeping Sandlin on their roster for all of 2026?
