Bello had his his only complete game ever with Wong behind the plate.  Now Giolito looks to go 8 while giving up 1 run.  Is it even remotely possible Breslow and Cora had good reasons for not signing another backup catcher?

They wanted no clubhouse problems

Someone mentioned trying Wong with Buehler, but maybe spreading out his non Bello work is a good idea, too.

Narvaez needs some rest.

I'm also worried about Crochet leading the league in IP.

Ultimately, he wanted Breggy, or else he would not offer the highest AAV in Red Sox history for someone he did not want.

Who cares who convinced him. He was convinced enough to want him. Then, he went out and got him.

Yeah, this.

This continued idea that Breslow was made to make this move by someone twisting his arm behind his back is ridiculous.

Every move made on this roster is on him. Every one.

I really thought this sweep was going to happen the other way around. What a great weekend.

Fred, Rafaela is now at .761.

What is your projection for his final OPS for 2026?

(I'd say .740 to .770. Give me a 30 point range.)

.710-.740. As the season wears on and he gets tired his plate discipline will get even worse, if that’s possible

No comments on Crochet getting a deep rest this week  ? He deserved it and needs to be in shape for later.

I thought we’d win one game. I thought the results on the deadline would demoralize the players but it’s had the opposite effect.

Cora should try using the human blinkie with Buehler.

We can see on display, today, that other top AL teams have as many or more weak areas as we have.

The Yanks have sucked for nearly 2 months. (21-27 since June 7th)

The Astros have several big holes.

The Tigers are under .500 for nearly 2 months (24-26 since June 3rd)

The Jays were playing as well as anybody for a long time, but have shown recent kinks by losing 5 of their last 6. They have several holes, too.

SEA and TEX are playing well, but they too have several issues.

Amen.  Some great examples.

And do I need to add that the Sox weak areas are greatly exaggerated here on talksox?  I mean that thread on the presumed failure of Breslow to make a big move on July 31 is now at 15 freaking pages because a huge number of talk soxers are buying the media hype that Breslow failed miserably.  They give him a D or and F.

The talksox complaints are based on these false assumptions:  1) the Sox rotation stinks; 2) 1b is a disaster which will bring the Sox down quicker than that iceberg did the Titanic; 3) Wong is completely incompetent as the Sox backup catcher.; 4) the Sox have way too many good outfielders, whom Cora is unable to give enough starts/at bats to.

The Athletic have an article on there today where a few of the players were saying how happy they were that nobody got moved off the big league roster and that it was a real boost that Duran wasn't moved.

I mentioned someone (McAdam's I think) saying this may happen the other day, but wasn't ready to believe it. I believe it now.

Breslow absolutely FAILED at the deadline. Obviously the team is playing well now but if he had obtained a #2 SP, a good RH to play 1B, and a decent backup catcher we could have been the favorites to win at least the AL.

Instead he got M&Ms.

I think there were some posts. Maybe mine , that said a couple days before the deadline that Breslow liked the roster a lot and did not want to disturb the vibe in the clubhouse. An indirect effect of the Devers trade

Cedanne with 3 hits, not one of which was on the strike zone. Will this kid ever learn ?

Berra had the same problem.  And Devers has been known to golf those low pitches now and then.

Anthony is the opposite, and his way works a lot better.

Who cares.

You do. Otherwise you wouldn’t have commented on it.

Hint: it’s not Atlanta

Vlad was one of a kind.
Rafaela is no Vlad.
