The Boston Red Sox Expect Masataka Yoshida To Be Activated On Monday

It's been a long time coming. Finally, Boston Red Sox outfielder/designated hitter Masataka Yoshida is close to returning to the lineup. Multiple reports are indicating this could happen as soon as Monday, July 14th.

Yoshida's 2024 season saw him play in 108 games for the Red Sox. He posted an OPS of .765, hitting 10 home runs and driving in 56 RBIs. He also scored 45 runs.
Yoshida's 2024 campaign was impacted by injuries. He battled a thumb injury and also dealt with defensive limitations.

He's missed all of 2025 due to a right shoulder labrum tear, which required offseason surgery.

Yesterday, they were saying Wednesday and that Duran's HR last night was to be his final in a Sox uni.

Sox fans are kind of a mess these days...

Nate Eaton got demoted.  But doesn’t someone need to be DFAd or moved to the 60 day IL to get Yoshida on the 40 man roster in the first place?

Who gets demoted to AAA is easy.

Who gets demoted to the bench, so Yoshida starts vs RHPs, at least or FT as Cora might see it, is not an easy choice.

it looks like Anthony and Refsnyder have DHd the most, and both need to keep playing. Ref can platoon with Yoshida at DH, but what OFer does Anthony replace?

maybe a trade is made near tge time Yoshida gets called up.

Probably not Eaton if he's demoted now. If they were going to DFA him, they'd just do it the day they're activating Masa. Cotillo's report has Masa back TODAY not Monday though? I don't know what the move is and haven't seen speculation.

And Duran -- if neither is traded, Cora can mix and match according to metrics and match-ups. It will be an analytical department's dream (not like they don't already have too much control)... think of the bench options when needed late in the game: speed on the bases, pull power, big arm on D, contact to move a ghost (if Masa's on the pine), energy!

To me , all our 4 OFers should play over Yoshida and Ref vs lefties.

i think a trade should be made to fix one area and free up the logjam about to happen.
