The Boston Red Sox announced a trio of moves on Tuesday, including selecting reliever Isaiah Campbell from Triple-A Worcester. To make room for Campbell on the 40-man, they transferred Liam Hendriks to the 60-day IL. To make room on the active roster, they optioned Richard Fitts to Triple-A Worcester.

Campbell's 2024 season with the Red Sox was limited due to injuries, including a shoulder impingement and elbow inflammation. He pitched in 8 MLB games, recording a 0-1 record with a 16.20 ERA and 2.40 WHIP over 6.2 innings, striking out 6. He also had a stint in Triple-A Worcester, with a 2.20 ERA in 14 appearances.

Campbell has spent all of the 2025 season with the Triple-A Worcester Red Sox, primarily operating out of the bullpen. In 30 relief appearances he has a 3.89 ERA, 3.75 FIP, and a 12.7% strikeout-minus-walk rate. He will join the low- to -medium- leverage group of the Red Sox bullpen.

So this pretty much confirms:

Campbell DFA Wednesday, Yoshida activated

Option Eaton or Hamilton and activate Bregman later this week. Or option them both and call up Kelly too if bullpen numbers are too low.
Right?

Kelly is on the IL, he's not being called up. At least I don't believe he's eligible to be called up on the 11th. I think Campbell may be up for a little while. Sox may go with a bullpen game on Saturday for Fitts's rotation spot. Kelly has been trash for most of the season and has only been getting the taxi squad treatment because he was already on the 40 man roster, not because he deserved the innings.

More likely is that they DFA Sogard for Masa and option Eaton back to AAA IMO. Once Breggie is ready, Hamilton can be optioned to AAA as well. We are also getting to that point in the year where some players may just be dealt instead. A guy like Hamilton could have value on a bench of a true contender rather than sitting in AAA here. It would also clear a 40 man spot. There has also been talk of a Jarren Duran trade which could happen at some point. They could even potentially clear a roster spot by trading Grissom for a prospect that isn't on a team's 40 man roster.

If seeing the names Kelly, I. Campbell and Hendriks in the same posts don't give you heartburn, what will,? 5 chili dogs and a soda ?

Makes it very clear ( same as last year), that the BP is where there must be some productive editions.  Sims and Garcia were strikeouts in 2024.  Hope there is better pickings this time around.

Forgot Kelly was on the IL. I’d rather DFA him tbh. I highly doubt Sogard gets DFA’d, to me it just doesn’t feel like something they’d do.

I honestly don’t see a single team in the league taking Hamilton for anything more than salary relief, given his poor production at like everything besides running fast.

Hopefully the trades get going so the roster can be the rest of season roster.

I'm hopeful that Campbell can be a fairly productive pitcher. He was good in '23. Kelly has been dogdoo for a while.

Campbell's issue last season may be due to injury. He's been better this year. We'll see.

I think we DFA Sogard or trade Grissom.

the big question is who does Anthony replace when Yoshida DHs vs RHPs?

Tough call with the way Rafaela's currently hitting, but I would say Rafaela.  I thought we alleviated some of that log jam when we traded Devers, but I guess not enough.  It's a good problem to have.

I really hate to see any of our outfielders traded.  The FO will have some tough decisions to make.

I don't think we see Anthony playing much CF. Maybe we see more Duran in CF like tonight? IDK. Rafaela hasn't had many days off, so maybe they are just giving him a breather.

Now that Duran isn't penciled in as the everyday leadoff guy, the lineups may be very different day to day.

No, I don't think we'll see Anthony in CF.  Duran in CF and Anthony in LF when Rafaela sits.  They are talking about getting Anthony more reps in front of the monster.

With the # of players that Cora is shuffling to get playing time, you're right about the lineups being different day to day.

Just the way Cora likes it!  He's like a kid in a candy store right now with all these options.

I Campbell looked bad, tonight, but maybe he's just shaking off some rust. The guy was pretty good in 2023 and the talk was he had some pretty good stuff.

Let's give him a few more looks.

So far, Cora has done a really good job of getting everyone playing time.  Playing Rafaela and Mayer at 2nd base has opened up some options.

I just don’t see enough PAs for Duran, Rafaela, Anthony, Abreu\Ref and Yoshida in 4 slots. If everyone plays 80%, it’s enough, but I don’t want anyone but Yoshida to sit 20%.

if the 4 OFers play 90% that means Yoshida plays 40%. Fine by me but probably not Cora.

Tell me how you split up the 4 slots: 3 OF and DH?

It's tricky, but you also have to consider that somebody might get injured.

I don't have the answer to that and will defer to Cora to make those decisions.  It's a good problem to have, I guess.

I realize that one of our outfielders may be traded for some pitching.  What I would really hate to see is Breslow making a trade of one of our OFers or Yoshida largely to clear the logjam, thereby not getting fair value in return.

Inevitably, if we trade someone, we'll have an injury or an underperformance and wish we had that player back.

We have needs, now.

We can plan for an OF injury, instead?

Besides, we'd likely be okay with Campbell, Garcia or Refsnyder/Yoshida as fill-ins anyway.

This logjam will not go away after 2025, either. Duran has the shortest team control, and he's got 3 years left.
