The Red Sox have NEVER done the "our DH is whoever needs a day off" gimmick. It's not going to happen. Raffy is the DH. He's hitting the buhjesus out of the ball right now. He needs to stay healthy for the next decade. Just leave him at DH. There's no proof that he'd be an adequate 1b anyway.

Other team have managed with a rotating DH. The problem is Devers. He isn't a team player. He's a child in a man's body. Truth is, its not going to matter this year, but you cannot have a culture in the franchise where one spoiled player tells the team where he is or is not going to play. Thats the tail wagging the dog.

Well, they did put up with Manny being Manny for 7.5 years and won 2 rings in the process.

Raffy better stay away from the traveling secretary!

I am not a manager. And I never will be a manager. But if I were a manager, I would never allow any of my players to be interviewed while they were supposed to be concentrating on defense.

100%.  I'll admit, I like to hear what the guys have to say sometimes, but it should not be done when the player is supposed to be actively entrenched in the game.

I don’t remember Ramirez refusing to play where he was told to play. He was definitely quirky but insubordinate like Devers? I don’t recall that.

He literally refused to pinch hit in a game once because he was mad he didn’t start and he literally forced a trade by refusing to play in games and faking injuries…

and was suspended for taking steroids

and went to jail for hitting his wife

not to mention all the other s*** he did both on and off the field. He was MUCH worse than Devers, he just got away with it because he was a hall of fame level hitter

Yeah, I remember that now. He should’ve been disciplined like Devers should be disciplined. It’s a team sport. No player should be above the team. It just sends the wrong message.

This isn't little league.  Suspending a Manny or a Devers might cost the team a few wins.  Moral victories are pretty hollow at this level.

Does a few wins really matter this year? It’s the perfect time to set the proper culture for the team if/when they become competitive again.

Not happening.  I think you used to have a joke about pounding your head against a door until it becomes a window or something like that. 🙂

I know it’s not happening. Neither is world peace or the invention of a perpetual motion machine. That doesn’t mean it shouldn’t happen. It should.
