Newcomb is awful.

Come on guys.  Newbie did get 3 outs, all by K's,  a 100% rate.    The 4 run deficit ?  Just following the Red Sox game theory of fall behind early and not hit with men on base.

It's still early in the season. It could get better or not.

He's 2025 Chase Anderson. Was hoping for better. Oh well...

Newcomb = DFA

We'll see how long he sticks around once Bello or Giolito are healthy.

So which is it?

Spring Training stats mean NOTHING or it means SOMETHING?

That's correct, Nick

Depends on the player? Newcomb shutting down the opposition in ST without changing his pitch mix means nothing. Houck struggling after not having a great second half could mean something.

Sorry, had to step out for awhile and missed the rallying that Duran got started with 2 OUT hitting.

Still,  7 K's in 3 innings ( 9 outs total) shows that the engine is still misfiring badly.   MVP has it right---Put the ball in play and something good can happen.

On ESPN , there is a good article on the "torpedo" bat favored by the Yankees ( & others)  that applied physics principles ( mass x velocity at the point of contact= kinetic energy transferred) to a legal, MLB ok'ed bat design.

It only works though if the bat hits the ball, preferably squarely , an oxymoron when it's a round ball and round bat.

Rafaela down a quick 0-2, swings at a ball in the dirt and grounds out.

6 bb's in 16 ST games. How many regular season games for him to get to 6 bb's?

First intelligent comment on this topic.  Newcomb now had 3 shutout innings (even though he dug a big 4-0 hole for the Sox).

First up in the 5th, the man who K'd with a runner on 3b.

If Newcomb can get through 5 and the Sox are still close, it's a miracle.

Agree, plus it's another positive comment on Newcomb.
