Cole is one of Raffy’s favorite pitchers to hit, so maybe he gets going today.

So Red, now you become the comedian on here

The dog crap PigPen as, SS names them,  have the worst ERA  in MLB since the A-S break.  So Brez does his job and goes out and gets  reinforcements before the deadline.   Both of those turds are currently unavailable securing Breslow's rep for hiring only the lonely and the wounded.

Both Kelly and Booser were optioned to WOO after last night's game.

To replace them the SOX have brought up, wait for it, Bailey Horn, again. The other reliever coming from WOO is a guy named Zach Penrod, a 27 year old, who the SOX signed in 2023 from an independent league. His ERA at WOO was 5.83. The SOX replace one Zack with another Zach spelled differently. So plenty to get excited about here.

I liked that Bello worked his way out of that after the Valdez error.  Earlier this year (and in the last couple), that inning probably would have exploded for 4 or 5 runs.

That’s happened a couple times recently.  Is he maturing before our eyes?

Let’s hope so.

To all those who have opined Devers should sit out the rest of the season because he can't hit or do anything else that's useful--

The Yankees just walked him intentionally with no one on base, after which he stole 2d base and then scored.  Now the Sox are up 3-1 on a rally that began with that intentional pass and SB.  In no way do I mean to suggest those hits by Abreu and Yoshida weren't fantastic because they were.  Nevertheless, it would appear Alex Cora knows just a tiny bit more about who to play and when than all those nattering nabobs of negativism on talksox.

I stand by Bello (and Crawford) as a pitcher who deserves more appreciation.  The Sox have 3 good (not great) young pitchers right now, and maybe Fitts can be a fourth.

Although right now Fitts is merely Juan Peña 2.0…

This may be the line of the year 😆

I find it funny that the Yankems allow their players to grow hair under their noses, but not under their chins.

Your thoughts.

Actually, that's pretty mainstream.  The US Armed Services have long tolerated moustaches but not beards--I'd say for at least a century.  They do make exceptions, but not many.  Rare is the flag officer who even has a moustache.

Now if he could just get a little more efficient.  66 pitches through 3 innings means the pen is in play for an extra frame or 2 today.  That’s not good news.

Edit - my bad it’s 4 innings.  That’s a much closer to adequate, which is around 15 pitches per inning

Agree.  I think Bello has a pretty good array of pitches and maybe the best changeup on the team.  Plus he can throw hard when he needs to.  His weakness is control/command, but I think that's actually a basic requirement for Sox pitchers. Once they are found out--discovered they can actually work the edges of the strike zone--they are dumped.  Latest example is of course Chris Sale.

I can't resist asking this question.  Bello is 25 and earns maybe $1M, which is actually pretty good.  He's going up against Cole, who has a lot more experience and makes $36M/year.  We are in the 5th inning, and the Sox, whose hitting recently has been suspect, are leading 7-1, and Cole has just been pulled from the game with 1 out.

Don't you think your standard for Bello is just a tiny bit high?

He should sit because the season is over for the team and him continuing to play risks further injury to his shoulders., not because he is useless.
Rafaela is useless. That’s why HE should sit.

Complete Cole-apse by the Yankems' ASS, er, I mean ACE.

Cole rarely pitches well against the Red Sox.

Yeah, the 23 year old, gold glove level fielder with a near 3 WAR is useless. Who needs those guys???

He’s also pretty young.  Bello is only 7 months older than Fitts, and the latter has all of two career MLB starts..

Good article about his total lack of plate discipline on this forum. You should read it. We got rid of someone like him not long ago-JBJ. I think he’s out of baseball now.

Correction: JBJ is playing for the Long Island Ducks. Maybe they could use another good defensive player.

You mean ALCS MVP, gold glove winning, World Series champion Jackie Bradley Jr? Yeah who wants a guy like that hitting 9th.
