With a team like ours, in a league that has no clear great teams and versus a team in free fall, I watch to the end.

Does anyone know why Judge took three pitches down the middle. It was incredible!

 

That was very odd. He never took the bat off his shoulder. I know Judge is a competitor, but it looked like he was disgusted and just gave up the at bat.

As bad as the Sox bullpen has been, the Yankee pen is worse. (It does seem that a lot of contending teams are dealing with a worn-down bullpen these days) But the Yankees don't have any relievers who can get it done. I was not one bit surprised that the Sox were able to rally last night.

The Yankees have some very serious problems.

 

Just a 2 man offense with no depth. If Judge or Soto get hurt, they might be the worst team in the AL East. With Stanton out, Austin Wells is their 3rd best hitter. Volpe (.689) and Torres (.681) are their 4th and 5th best. The rest are near .650 or under.

 

Cole is not the same. Gil and Stroman have done well, but Cortes and Rodon are both above 4.12. SP FIPs:

The pen has some nice season stats but is struggling, badly.

 

I'm not sure their farm offers much future hope, either.

Rewatched the 7-8-9 after the game . The assessments of the plays and players certainly is more circumspect. The key hit by Yoshida worked because Yankee infield was drawn in. Rafaela's 2 run shot was totally legit. Horn was not sharp nor in position to field. Wong worked a tough walk to get our second man on, very close on Ball4/strike 3. Jansen will never work a clean inning in his remaining baseball life, so don't expect it. DJ LeMahieu who at one time was a force, has nothing left. Judge taking K3 was inexplicable. Don't trade Wilyer Abreu, trade others and get a relief pitcher. Zack Kelly does the most obvious mistake possible, then repeats it. Put the ball center-center twice.

 

This may be the far better way to watch the game , knowing the outcome. Probably the top win of the year, and rejuvenates the Nation.

 

That's not "circumspect." That's nit-picking. Yoshida did exactly what Cora wanted him to do, he hit the ball hard, and that's why it got it out of the infield. Horn has an ERA over 6, but he got 3 outs while giving up 1 hit, the cleanest full inning by any of the Sox six relievers.

 

Jansen's been closing games and getting saves since 2010 and has averaged over 1K per IP. This season we've seen him use that cutter over and over and over again, usually with good effect. And you want to disparage that he K'd Judge looking?

 

And you end by assuring us the best way to watch a Sox game is after knowing the final score? I hope you were being ironic.
