Giving Wong an error on that throw is ridiculous. When Devers strikes out, is another batter given credit for Devers' K?

Changed to Devers in the box score; in fact, it was considered a caught stealing.

Box score gives the error to Devers.

Devers is the most experienced and highest paid player on the team. He should set the example, but routinely does the opposite. I believe he tries hard, but simply is incapable of setting a good example, and the other players have to be aware of that reality.

So , arguably the best pitcher on the team that is momentarily 22-21, has a record of 3-5. I agree that pitcher's W-L's do not tell much of a story, but this one tells me that Tanner Houck does not get much run support, nor do any other Sox starters.

4-8 in last 12 with Sox scoring 2 or less in 6 losses and 3 in the other 2. But look at the defense again. Wong had the guy stealing 3B. He would have slid into the tag had Devers caught the throw. Cooper allows a potential DP bouncer to eat him up instead of attacking the ball. Cannot play defense on your heels.

Win one, lose one, rinse and repeat.

Teams absolutely game plan for better hitters…

Do hitters game plan for situational at bats? Would it make sense for an organization to protect its $300 million dollar investment to hire lefty BP pitchers to serve Devers a daily hour of sliders and sweepers? Muscle memory is important, and reps practicing which pitches to lay off and which ones to hit oppo should maybe be a regular part of pregame prep.

Same with high fastballs: give entire BP sessions with heaters at the top of the zone, so hitters learn which ones they can handle and which they should take.

When I was in the business last century, I once stood on the Fenway lawn during BP. Dwight Evans was hitting vs. normal speed, and calling out his own situations and swinging accordingly - "2-0" (pulls the ball); "3-1" (launches one to center); "3-2, runner on third with less than two outs" (hits a fly ball to right)... then turns to Bill Buckner and says, "They threw you out at home."

the fact that Dominic Smith is the DH is a f***ing joke.

Agreed.

Ref has been hitting RHPs, well. He should play FT, at least until he shows he should go back to platooning.

Houck's run support:

9 win

12 win

0 loss

2 win

1 loss

5 win (no decision)

5 win

2 loss

1 loss

3 loss

Like the season as a whole, 21 runs were scored in those firsat 2 starts. 7 were scored in his 5 losses.

(7 were scored in the team's other 2 wins.)
