I was more in favor for him to be a starter than Whitlock. I never had a problem with him being a starter

Houck's only issue was getting past batter #18.

These days, that's all most starters get to, anyway.

It's also not something a pitcher can never get over.

There is nothing WONG with Houck as a SP'er.

Houck with an unheard of COMPLETE GAME, 3 hitter. The man is my MVP 2024

Bello should pay attention

The BP didn't even have to get off their arses tonight.

He didn't give the defense too many difficult plays, either.

Maybe this is the new strategy.

Unbelievable games in so many respects. Like, yes, under 2 hours. Like a 94 pitch shutout. Like Houck had a lot of confidence because he had pretty good command, but more than that almost every pitch had some break in it, which is why the Guardian's didn't hit many line drives.

I do remember the belief, last year and the year before and the year before that, that Houck couldn't face a lineup 3 times because he simply didn't have enough of a repertoire and/or nasty stuff.

Many of the defensive misplays have been because the pitchers let the hitter smack it too hard and just out of reach. Houck has it figured out.

Stayed away once the game started. Didn't want to jinx it.

Just an unbelievable pitching performance.

Youk kept saying the Guardians were overanxious. I don't think so. They were overmatched....especially the RH Hitters.

Of the 94 pitches, 69 were strikes (73.4 %) The key to pitching remains starting in the zone , have movement on the ball and get the HP ump to call it right

A memorable way to end a unmemorable home stand.

Dude, they play Cleveland again tomorrow. Early. Need to get the spilt. Some guy with the initials TBD is throwing for us.

Sorry. I thought they were leaving for Pittsburgh. Game time tomorrow is 1:35PM.

Bello can’t find the strike zone consistently enough to go that deep.

MAX had the unique pleasure of opening a game thread where a SOX starter went 9. This will probably be more difficult to repeat than Vegas's 4 game winning streak.

Ya both done good.

I had a very specific reason for starting this thread. Half of it is in the OP, which I just wrote.

Sox are now 10-9 and are tied with the Rangers for 1st in the AL West. Also just 1 game back of the Dodgers for 1st place in the NL West.

The AL East, needless to say, has zero teams with a losing record and the best Divisional W-L record in MLB.

Houck became the 3rd pitcher in MLB to have a CG this season. All 3 CG have been shutouts.

I think this puts the Sox ERA back into 1st in MLB. Too bad their team OPS is 20th and the fielding is worse than the hitting.

Last Red Sox complete game shutout was Michael Wacha at the Angels a couple years ago. The last one at Fenway was the immortal Brian Johnson in 2017 against Seattle.

Amazing the starting pitchers are doing this amazing.... and they are in last place.
