Crawford went to the school of Chris Martin's Ranch, this winter.

Sadly, however he went to the wrong Chris Martin’s ranch. But he at least now knows most of the lyrics to Viva La Vida…

Cora said nice things about slaten today. With an underlying theme that he has major control issues

This is not a surprising revelation about a player who has averaged 4.5 BB/9 throughout his minor lesser career, and who once averaged 8.4 BB/9 for the season (across two levels)…

Not surprising.

2022 AA 48 BB in 50.2 IP

2023 AA 16 BB in 51.1 IP

2023 AAA 4 BB in 8.1 IP

68 BB in 110 IP

150 K's is nice, but...

Luis Perales - 5.02 bb/9 career

Wikelman Gonzalez - 4.78 bb/9 career

Mata - 4.68 bb/9 career

His major concern.

10.0 BB/9 in 27 IP in 2023

5.0 BB/9 in '22 (83 IP)

3.6 in '21 (105 IP)

He's trending the wrong way!

Slaten: 4.54 BB/9 career.

3.02 in '23 (60 IP)

8.36 in '22 (52 IP)

3.39 in '21 as a SP in 82 IP

Looks to be trending in the right direction.

These guys remind me of DHern.

7.7 BB/9 career in MLB in 85 IP

7.2 in AAA (78 IP)

7.4 in AA (46 IP)

DHern was consistently high and was never able to manage it. Slaten has brought it under control somewhat from time to time. Remember, even DHern was productive at times. I think there is a path forward for a few of these guys depending on their overall stuff. I haven't seen Slaten pitch, but there must be a reason that Crag was quick to pounce on him.

DHern had such a low H/9 (7.9 MLB, but was 7.0 from '19-'21 and 6.6 from '20-'21) and high K/9 (14.0/9 is one of the best in MLB history for pitchers with 80+ career IP.)

AAA (78 IP)

5.2 H/9!!!!!

12.5 K/9

7.2 BB/9

I’m putting the odds at 60% Mata gets DFAd before May 1…

I'd assume it's that high going into the end of camp.

He does stand a good chance of breaking camp with the team if he stays healthy, simply because it’s unlikely everyone else will as well…

Agreed, if he's not traded.

He’s not great trade bait, given he requires a 40 man roster spot, is out of options, and has only pitched 210 innings in the past 5 years…

Respect for our Short King.

@gfstarr1

Sam Kennedy told us that Dustin Pedroia FaceTimed him, Alex Cora, several of the assistant GMs at dinner last night to point out the remaining free agents on the market and make his feelings known about what the Red Sox should do…

Throwing 103 innings in 2019 is why he needed to take almost the entirety of '20-'22 off.

You're doin' too much bro!

Good thing they never traded that guy.

And if they traded him in 2014, the franchise outlook would be different how?

Hey the guy is (hopefully) doing what I would like to do, and doing so without getting blocked and having a restraining order taken out. No need to hate on him…

Who is hating on him? He was a good player.

I thought that was Doc Ellis.
