Yes, we know. You stopped watching when the team got good for a while…

I never thought at any moment that the Red Sox were as good as their record was last year even when they were beating up on Toronto, and the Yankees, but it sure fooled many on here. I know you, and another keeps sticking to the theory for some reason that I stopped watching the Red Sox, because they were winning that doesn’t make any sense whatsoever accept to the two of you. It was pure coincidence, and NOTHING else, but wild speculation.

I can accept 78-84 as meeting the definition of mediocre. The problem, apparently, is Werner thinks this team just isn’t mediocre enough to get concerned about…

Makes sense- for me; however, mediocre means .500 or above. More importantly it means I can sit down on a hot summer evening, eat some snacks, enjoy a cold drink ... and watch a game feeling like I'm watching a team that has a chance to make plays and win the game. Regardless of the record... I lost that feeling last year, which defeats the purpose of watching the games... For me anyway. I

Tom- liar or dillusional. Your team should pray to be one mediocre. Or did he mean that as a means to not accepting mediocrity they chose sucking instead?

Actually…

Wormtongue’s full quote:

“When we have two sucky seasons like we’ve had, these are natural questions. We have to take them. But I can tell you, as a kid who grew up less than a mile from Fenway Park, if you think for one second that we aren’t passionate, committed, dedicated to the Boston Red Sox, you’re wrong, you’re a liar, and I’ll correct you on it, because it’s total BS. We are committed. We are frustrated. We take it personally. It angers us when we don’t win. And we understand that there are natural questions. But look back in history – these questions come up when we’re not performing at the Major League level. We have to perform at the Major League level, and those questions will go away. But to say that the attention or the commitment or the care isn’t there is just flat wrong.”

Mediocre means “of moderate quality” or “nothing special.” In MLB, all teams finish between .400 and .600, and the ones that don’t usually are not outside that range by much. I think falling in the .520-.540 (84-87) win range might be a bit too good to be considered “of moderate quality.” Especially since a team in that range went to the World Series last year…

I predict more 2024 Hartford Yard Goats games for me.

Please tell me you have a hat. And not the one with the YG on it; any of the goat ones…

I’m not sure what is worse: the lies or thinking these guys actually believe this crap.

I totally believe Henry wants to win. I do. I don’t believe he doesn’t care. He spent $660milion to acquire this team. Nobody ever anywhere spent $660mill on something and then didn’t care about it.

However, I don’t think Henry wants to spend to win. He wants the “Rays Way” but without all those years of struggling the Rays went through to get there…

And if you think that this is the same JH today as it was when he bought the Red Sox he is not. To still think he is here’s your sign.🤭🙈.

So you think he doesn’t care about his $660mill investment? Not buying it.

But if you do think he doesn’t care, why boycott? Boycotting only works of someone cares…

I suspect Gammons's theory will be proven to be true. There's something going on on in a financial way with FSG that we don't know about and that has a lot to do with the payroll trimming.

I said this last year. It isn't only the Red Sox. FSG sought out Arab investors for Liverpool last year. It is only a guess, but I think the hike in interest rates and other economic factors have adversely affected FSGs balance sheet.

When JH bought the Red Sox it was all in on taking down the Evil Empire. Now it doesn’t even look like the Red Sox are in on getting out of last place in the Div. Doesn’t look like the same JH to me.

He’d care about seeing his profits decline, significantly.

You’re arguing with someone who thinks Jeff Foxworthy is an IQ test, just give up, you can’t win.

Some people will never understand the difference between apathy and failure. Henry has failed. It’s as simple as that.

Are they highly leveraged?

If anything, high interest rates may have been an incentive to use more equity and less debt to expand.

Every year 29 owners didn’t care enough.

LOL

Here’s your sign. H I B E R N A T E! YOU’RE GREAT!

Ohhhhh. It’s Bill Engvall, not Jeff Foxworthy. You were close, Hugh…

That’s alright that’s not the only thing he’s been wrong about. He said the Red Sox couldn’t use an extra $17M to sign someone this year. Considering how the Sox are cutting payroll that’s pretty hard to figure, but he tried to do it.🙈🤭

Maybe he meant to say “wouldn’t”. You know. Like a lot of folks are saying..,

It's not Henry's 660 million investment he doesn't care about. It's his customers. He apparently has convinced himself that they are morally obliged to throw money at him even for a mediocre product. What a lot of us life-long customers want is simple: we want him to improve the product. We don't (or I don't) give a rat's behind how much money he makes or loses. Edited by jad

It was Larry that wanted to take down the Evil Empire. He was front and center. Henry was in the background even then.

I know that, and JH said himself that Larry ran the Red Sox, but JH signed the checks. Now he has a pretty tight grasp on that checkbook.

I’m not sure we can surmise JH’s thoughts and beliefs. You don’t have to think fans are morally obliged to believe they will keep coming to games and paying top dollar to boot.

I do think he’s going through a phase of not going all in and thinking enough people will go to the games or watch harm on TV, for him to keep making money. He’s well aware of dropping attendance and NESN viewership. He’s weighed the losses vs the savings and seems to be okay with a lull in top competitiveness.

How long can this continue is the big wonder, to me.

The way Jared Carrabis tweets his opinions is honestly exactly how I feel about Red Sox ownership. I’ve never been less excited for a season to start.
