Maybe he's referring to Bauer only being able to get a job overseas last year.

I think there’sa difference between going overseas to rebuild value and being exiled overseas. Miles Mikolas is one and Yasiel Puig is the other.

Bauer was exiled but might get a reprieve if his story is true. If German spends a year on the Chunichi Dragons, he still has the same baggage a year later.

Either teams ignore it or exile him. Ignoring his baggage next year changes nothing…

Hal Steinbrenner: "I do believe that a team shouldn't need a $300 million payroll. The Rangers didn't, the Astros didn't. What you need is a good mix of veteran players and young players. We're going to get a bit younger."

Hal Steinbrenner: "We did not get to where we needed to be with run production last year. It was probably our biggest problem."

Hiring a new hitting coach and focusing on fixing the #Yankees' offense will be a focus this winter.

Asked to provide more specifics on what could change this winter, Hal Steinbrenner brought up bunting and how it's becoming a bigger part of the game again.

"Aaron Boone doesn't think that the #Yankees are teaching players to bunt enough within player development."

We thought our front office was a joke. This is hilarious!

So the off-season plan for the Yankees is to sign Ohtani and trade for Juan Soto… and then make them bunt more?

I hope they never change their top decision makers.

Start with teaching Judge how to bunt!

LOL!

Reminds me of a funny story I read in some baseball book in my youth (and may have told before) and seen in several sources since

Back in 1933, Dodger second baseman Fresno Thompson was pushed into a starring role at third base due to a glut of injuries in a game against the Cardinals. Hall of Famer Chick Hafey, a notorious pull hitter, came up and ripped a hard line drive to third that cracked Thompson in the knee (or shin in some versions) and deflected into left field for a double.

The next time Hafey came up, Thompson positioned himself in shallow left field. Hafey overlooked the situation and dropped a bunt down the third base line on the first pitch.

After the inning, Thompson returned to the dugout and sought out the batboy. Fresco confronted him and asked him if he had a dime. Upon being assured he had one, Thompson instructed him “go to the concession stand and get an ice cream, preferably strawberry, and deliver it to Chick Hafey with my compliments.

“And be sure to tell him if he bunts again, he’ll get another one.”

So Cash made some comments about Stanton being injury-prone (obviously true), but Stanton’s agent, Joel Wolfe, was a bit displeased. Wolfe said:

“I think it’s a good reminder for all free agents considering signing in New York both foreign and domestic that to play for that team you’ve got to be made of Teflon, both mentally and physically because you can never let your guard down even in the offseason.”

The kicker is that Wolfe is also Yamamoto's agent.

It will have no effect on the Yama negotiations. If the Yanks offer the most, he's as good a Yankee.

I'm hoping the Yanks get Ohtani.

If it's all about the money, Mr. Dismissive :D, why did Ohtani sign with the Angels? Do you know that they made the highest bid?

Almost every time, it's the highest bid, and the player says that team "showed him the most respect."

A few times, it's about location, but money still plays a major role in the choice.

As I recall, the word was that Ohtani wanted to play for a West Coast team back then.

Obviously the money is usually the top factor, but I don't think we should totally dismiss that there can be other factors too. The player is going to be filthy rich whichever place he chooses, so why not have it all, the dough plus being in a preferred location.

Ohtani will be a monster for that team in that ballpark. The negatives (such as pushing Stanton to the outfield) could be far outweighed by the positives.

The only real positive IMO is it likely tempers their interest in Juan Soto…

We know what really matters: the school systems. It's all about standardized test scores... and those teachers, who want summers off every year of their careers. If they were really earning their salaries, they'd motivate students to top tier scores (including new citizens mandated to take the test even if they don't speak a single word of English).

Ohtani initially couldn't get max money. His age allowed him to fall into the INTL draftee pool and limited his upside in terms of cash. Hence, he chose location. Now, he can truly maximize his income. I hope the Yanks get him, honestly. They have good prospects. I would rather see us fill the holes with the prospects and use the FA market rather than deal away for a guy who is on a short term deal like Soto

I also don’t want Bellinger after looking at his metrics. He isn’t squaring up the ball and his season line is looking like a lucky platform season. If you’re planning to pony up $30 mil AAV for Bellinger, just escalate that by 50% and snag Ohtani

I agree. I am also not so sure he won't have some down years, right off the bat.

He was non tendered by the Dodgers. He's not all that consistent.

Honestly, Bellinger probably makes the most sense for the Yankees. Unlike Soto and Ohtani, Bellinger can at least play CF for the next few seasons.

Ohtani makes the least sense of the three, as signing him pushes Stanton into the OF for the next 4 years on days when 1) he isn’t injured and 2) Ohtani isn’t pitching…

He had the lowest exit velocity, hard hit % and barrel rate of his career, while the rest of his statcast numbers were just decent. Buyer beware.

He will be pricey, but defensively he does make the most sense of the three for NY…

He does make sense defensively, but we had good D last year and we had wet noodles at the plate. We need someone who can protect Judge and can play the field. We are out on Ohtani. We are not enamored with Bellinger. Soto would be a great add, but a one year rental at a high prospect price doesn't add much when we know he is hitting the market after 24. Why not just get him next year and fill in around Judge? With Ohtani out of the NY sphere, I don't know where we can turn honestly. Outside of a bunch of old guys finding the fountain of youth, I am not confident in 24 already

Think several lesser upgrades on O.

You guys could sign Chapman and trade someone else to upgrade another position.

Stanton at DH might kill your O or have a rebound and make a big difference.

One thing for sure. Both our teams need some major additions.

The problem with several lesser upgrades is our roster is pretty full. 13 offensive players make a roster

Catcher is a black hole offensively but you need to carry 2

1b- Rizzo

2b- Torres

SS- Volpe

3B- Lemahieu

UTIL- Peraza

LF- hole

CF- hole

RF- Judge

DH Stanton

4th OF Pereira

That leaves a starting LF, starting CF and one more bench spot. Rizzo, Lemahieu and Stanton aren’t moveable. We don’t have the ability to pull a Rays here

So, ??? in LF or Judge in CF with Dugo in RF?

I would think Dugo in RF in NY is a better fit for him, so maybe they move guys around. It might depend on who the 3rd OF'er will be.

If it's Soto, I'd think Soto in left, Judge in center and Dugo in right.
