As Jim Morrison said, this is the end , my friend

A losing season on all fronts, home and away.

But a win today would at least match 2022's lack of success. Otherwise, this year was regressive despite all the enthusiasm for the young players getting experience and exposure .

Maybe another good outing from 5-10 Tanner "In yo' face" Houck would be encouraging.

To cap it off, for those that liked him or didn't, Tim Wakefield passed away from his just announced brain cancer. Maybe that explains some of his quiet moments on broadcasts this year. No way he did not know the ultimate call to the bullpen was on its way

RIP Tim Wakefield. A true gentleman.

But that’s on another thread.

Rest in agony for the bums that make up most of the players, management, and ownership that comprise this awful team.

Only the 2023 Sox can score 2 without anyone actually getting an RBI.

But keep the lead and close the gap.

Goodbye Bobby Dalbec. 6K's in his last 9 ABs. A high mark even for him. All the best for a great post career.

Doesn't matter any more but it is notable that Kenley Jansen has not recorded an out since September 4th. He made 2 subsequent appearances but never got an out, losing one on a walkoff HR. Hasn't pitched at all in 19 days .

Somewhat attributable to the Sox terrible record in September , precluding the need for a closer, and a bout with a Covid variant. I will guess now that Kenley is on the trade block next July before his contract runs out, even if the team is competing for a playoff slot.

thanks to two errors on the same play by Baltimore. amazingly, some people think defense doesn't matter.

Houck survives midway through the lineup for the 3rd time. Tanner extends the end of year run of shutout innings from the starters. Pressure is off and they all pitch well. Still not scoring much though

Some team will grab him. Lesser talents like Dalbec can survive when there's 30 teams in the league. Back when their were 16 teams in MLB, Dalbec would already have begun his new career in something other than baseball.

don't worry, when his career is over, i'm sure he'll have no trouble finding work as a human windmill.

Dalbec gets another golden sombrero.. Imagine being the pitcher who gets pulled ( Lopez) right before Dalbec is due up.

Can the Sox count on Bernardino being effective in 2024 ? One of the pieces found in the Bloom era that actually contributed well. He will be 32 by start of next season but definitely not a worn out arm .

The SOX are short on LH relievers, so I certainly hope he'll be a contributor again next season.

Actually saw Jansen in the dugout on the NESN broadcast, smiling . Time to return to Boston , say adios and take your stuff out of the clubhouse. Please tip the clubhouse staff..

Many of our RH'd RP'ers do well, very well or even have reverse splits vs LHBs.

I do think we try to add one, but it's 4th or 5th on my list.

1. SP

2. SP

3. SP or RHB

4. RHB or SP

5. LH RP or RHB/SP

I seriously doubt we take the $4.5M Joely option, so that leaves in house options Murphy, Bernardino, Walter or force Sale to the pen.

Is Cedanne Rafaela truly ready to be on the big club next April ? Not sure. Maybe a month or two in Worcester to specifically work on pitch recognition wouldn't hurt. Abreu looks more ready , and we don't know how Duran will come through next Spring.
