9/16 Well damn SOMEONE has to step up: Meaningless game #whatever vs. Jays

Are you now saying defense can lose games?

Ain't lost yet.

However, since you re-raised this topic, a thought. Your complaint was and is that the Red Sox defense stinks this year and is costing games.

My nefarious claim is that, while I agree that can happen, it's the cost of doing business because first priority is players who can hit. Rafaela can hit. I hasten to go on and reiterate what I've already said too many times. Hitting and pitching are vastly more important than defense or baserunning.

But I did look him up on Sox Prospects, and they say he is already a plus-plus defender, especially if he is in CF.

If he is, then just maybe those errors/mistakes are in fact the cost of doing business and not a freaking disaster.

How many times have I said on talksox that the Sox need to score 5 runs to have a good shot at winning? Too many times. In this game they've scored 2 freaking runs.

And of course they have now failed to bring home the "ghost runner" on 2d base in the 10th and again in the 11th inning. This year that is signature Sox baseball: they stink with RISP.

Could they not try and bunt with the first batter in both inning to plate a run?

Actually, no, they can't. By that I mean they still love sabermetrics and sabermetrics says never bunt. So very few Sox players can actually bunt effectively.

Over the long haul, Rafaela should win more games with his D than lose some, but our D has been a triple freaking disaster, this year.

It's never been worse, IMO.

It has cost us at least 5-6 games, and I'd guess 7-9.

Name the games, please.

But my real point is that, even if you are right, you can't then claim that no other MLB teams have lost games because of errors/mistakes. Errors/mistakes are the cost of doing business especially if your first priorities are good arms and bats.

I agree on Rafaela. For once OB is right...that was simply a rookie mistake of nerves.

That said the game after having been well played and well pitched has devolved into a cacophony of mental and fundamental mistakes mainly by the Jays. Over the years that we have watched the Jays always just not quite getting there, I have never thought them a good fundamental baseball team no matter who is coaching them and who is playing for them. Must be something in the water up there.

Bichette does not deserve to have that work out for him. What the hell was he thinking about at the plate. Oh that's right. I just need to look up at my own post #37 to figure that one out.

This team is clearly tanking at this point.

Some close losses, so it's not like they look to have totally given up.

They seem to have forgotten how to take advantage of other team's gifts, get key hit, or lock down the opps, when we have a late lead.

Maybe it will cost Cora his job. They need a house cleaning.

On Aug 1 the Red Sox were 8 games over 500, and now 1 game under, and still dropping. 6-14 in their last 20. The Yankees on the other hand are 14-6. One team has qiut, and one team has not, and it’s not a good look for the Sox.

I wouldn't call a 4-3 loss in 13 innings evidence of quitting. If Rafaela caught that ball in the 9th it was a win.

Not that it matters.

6-14 in the last 20 sure isn’t signs of endorsement of anything good.

It's a sign of a badly constructed team and a fired CBO.

Maybe this increasingly brutal finish will REALLY motivate Henry and the other jackasses to some serious action this offseason.

I know you’re a Cora guy, but if a new GM/HOBO is hired from the outside I think he should be able to pick his own manager, which I don’t believe Bloom got to do.

Sox ownership have been meddlers in the baseball decisions from the get-go. Theo's gorilla suit was the first sign of it.

I don't think that's going to change.

That’s probably true, and I don’t think candidates will be lining up outside JH door either.

I have been saying all season, Cora is not a motivator and morale booster. Fundamental baseball is not his specialty, Boone is making him look bad, I hope he finally goes. I have seen too many good managers over many years and he is not in that category. Now I'll just sit back and wait complaining now is fruitless. New GM should pick his own manager so he has no excuses, we had enough ********, we deserve decent baseball.

Did ya happen to notice how Boone made out against Cora in the 2018 ALDS and 2021 Wild Card games? Did Aaron motivate and morale boost his boys to victory when it really counted?

It's not the team tanking: it was the one kid that is trying to make the 2024 MLB roster who tanked.

lmao
