Abreu is the shiny object at the moment, and Cora likes shiny objects, so it’ll be interesting to see how he handles this. Looking forward I’m not sold on Duran yet.

Abreu was just making a statement “So do you still think I’m only worth two months of Christian Valdez??!”

Very small sample size so far in Boston, so we’ll have to see how long the shine will stay, but at the moment I will say it was a good deal for Vaz.

7-8-9-1 batters: 14-24 w 1 BB, 3 2Bs & 3 HRs (9 RBI)

A good end to a up, and down road trip. Unfortunately scoring 17 runs still only counted as 1 win. Now we’ll see if the hot bats carry over, or it goes back to slumber in the lumber.

Speaking of hot bats. Is there any bat hotter than Mookie’s right now? Hope it doesn’t rain on his parade tomorrow, because the forecast is not looking to promising.

Here’s a question at the moment. To keep Abreu in the lineup who do you sit?

Casas

Dugy

Yoshida

At this stage I would sit Yoshida for a few games, perhaps use as a PH'er

Abreu is a good player, but not better than the guys you listed. He’s in the rotation for next year as I have suggested the past few weeks, but that still is depending on Verdugo being traded. He’s a LHB, so there’s no platoon with Masa, Duran or Verdugo. He’s behind those three.

His defense is on par or better than Verdugo’s. I’m unsure how well his bat can play long term, but he has pop and knows how to take a walk.

Duran LF

Rafaela CF

Abreu RF

That’s an athletic and dynamic OF. Refsnyder can sub for LHP (if he learns to hit again).

I can understand criticizing Dugo's offense, but I don't understand why he's dissed about his defense. Makes no sense.

Common sense says play the guy who's hot and that's Abreu. Sitting Masa a few games is a good idea.

Masa can DH and all 3 hot OF'ers can still play, but I'd rather play Turner and Casas than Masa.

I agree, sit Masas a couple games. Maybe it will help him, too.

To rest him again, or to bench him.

Depends what the guys playing, instead do.

Certainly benching is a possibility, if Abreu keeps raking, like this.

Btw, big shout out to Bello. He was awesome. 7 innings of 1 run pitching and gave the BP well-deserved rest. Great job!

Indeed, and he broke his day game curse.

I didn't like Vaz, and I like Wong a whole bunch. Plus I like McGuire as backup.

As for Abreu, he's just plain good news so far--and a bonus to go along with getting rid of Vazquez.

I liked Vaz, overall, despite some shortcomings, but at his age and FA status, it was time to move on.

Not needing to go out and spend money or prospect capital to replace him, was a slick move by Bloom.

Catcher OPS

2023: .701 (13th in MLB)

2022: .693 (8th in MLB)

I'm 100% certain the D is better, this year.

dWAR

1.8 Wong and -0.2 McGuire

1.3 Vaz and -0.3 Plawecki

How each catching tandem handles the staff is hard to figure out, because the staffs are so vastly different.
