Cole is having a heckuva year, his best yet. His 5.0 WAR is the highest in MLB among pitchers. I do not think the Sox own him even though they got that big win off him in the 2021 wild card game. I think he gave up 2 in 6 innings against the Sox on June 11.

Crawford is a plodder--just one quality start in 15 starts, mostly because he doesn't go 6 or more innings very often. In his previous 3 starts in August he went 4.2, 3.1, and 5 innings with pitch counts of 78, 78, and 81.

The Yankees OPS against righties this season is .688--and the Sox is/are .763.

Specifically, against righties Casas's OPS is .857, Devers .851, Duran (slumping right now) .845, Yoshida .845, Dugo .843, Duvall .841, Turner .809, Wong .735, and Reyes .690.

Story's, however, is .364 (in 9 games, 21 at bats).

Duvall sat out last night's game and just might get CF today given Duran's August slump (OPS .591)--plus the so-so route he took on that line drive to short CF. On the other hand, against Cole on June 11 Duran went 2 for 4.

Going to be a challenge to repeat last night's run production , but that's why they play the game . No matter how, this would be a great game to win.

Cole should have like 16-18 wins this season, but a combination of inept offense and random bullpen meltdowns have hurt his record. Not that wins matter that much nowadays. But he probably feels like he needs to pitch a complete game shutout in order to have a chance at a W.

They are 16-9 in his starts.

The Yanks have scored 5 or more runs in 13 of his 25 starts and averaged 4.73 runs per start for him. Over the season, they have averaged 4.24 rpg.

Other pitchers have been snake-bitten harder.

The ex-Yankee, James Paxton's new team is 7-9 in his starts despite his 3.34 ERA.

Love that last sentence.

We have done very well vs some of MLB's best SP'ers, this year. We seem to fall flat vs the no-names.

Cole has a career 3.19 ERA, but is 4.31 vs BOS.

I'm glad Crawford is going on an extra day's rest.

Casas was in original lineup, but has tooth infection.

I guess Casas’ sunning, walking barefoot to ground himself and his other meditative mumbo jumbo doesn’t work good against a bad tooth. Did Yaz ever miss a game for a tooth ache? Do you need teeth to hit?

Devers makes a brilliant play and throw from his knees to support a good 1st from Crawford. Where is this same guy at other times. I think he wanders mentally , but all who wander are not necessarily lost

Kind of picky but Reyes AB needed to score a run. He had 4 pitches up in zone to hit a flyball and didn't. The walk sets up a DP.

I don’t think this lineup 5-9 is competitive against Cole. The Yankees lineup is a pile of garbage too, so who knows.

Like I said, the bottom of the order cannot compete today against Cole. LOL!

Good grief. That's his second grand slam in less than a week. All those righties in the lineup are making a difference. Who knew?

Maybe Luis Urias was the deadline acquisition the team needed all along????

Kike or Arroyo would have achieved exactly the same result, no doubt.

Wong makes a great play for a DP. What a difference good defense makes. It shortens games and lengthens pitchers.

He was a good acquisition. Guy was a 2 fWAR player last few years and was hurt early this season. His ceiling was higher than any 2b on the current 40 man. He was moved for a guy potentially taken in the next Rule 5 draft, but still in A ball.

I don’t think it was a move to fix the problems of this year.
