What's the likelihood that Story will catch heaps of abuse if he doesn't hit right away ? I would think we may see a replay of Duvall coming off his wrist injury .

What looks like a strong lineup , based on career stats , is not performing as well as it should. The overall group is in a 10 game swoon with the bats, still shaky on defense , with a roulette wheel in the BP . The 6 runs last night won the game but was a total fluke outcome. More like a 3-2 game. But a win is a win, so maybe it lights them up for a run against lesser opponents.

What if he makes two throwing errors?

Unfortunately, apt phrasing.

I think Story will hit sooner rather than later. As for the rest of the team, that's anyone's guess. Duvall is fading again, so is Dugo. Nevertheless, I'm hopeful they'll all starting hitting with more consistency. Outfield defense is actually OK, and I think the infield should be OK with Devers, Story, Reyes, and Casas. Catchers are already OK.

Bullpen is scary, I agree, but Whitlock is due back soon and Houck not long after. I think Sale starts Friday, August 11.

Rafaela could get to Boston before September and is reportedly pretty good playing anywhere but catcher and 1b.

How does Raf come up before the SEP roster expands to 28?

We are not DFA'ing or demoting any of our 5 OF'ers.

Does he replace Reyes?

5 lefty bats and 4 righty.

Nice line-up, despite no Turner.

I’m not expecting much from Story anyway, and I don’t know how much of an upgrade Story will be over Chang on D. He hasn’t played SS for two years, so time will tell on that. As for his bat goes I don’t think he’s under any more pressure than last year, and probably even less.

I don’t believe Boston will see Raf before Sept 1 unless a couple of the present OF go down with injuries.

Why do have to be so realistic? Didn't Sam tell you our best deadline acquisitions will be the players returning from the IL?

The only time I believed Sam was when he said all of baseball ops failed last year.

Could demote Urias or a pitcher like Robertson. No need to DFA anyone since Rafaela is already on the 40 man. He could also get called up if someone goes on the 15 day IL.

Reyes has no options and cannot be demoted without a DFA

I think Turner's heel was definitely bothering him as you follow his runouts to 1B after a grounder. Of all the studs on this team, Justin definitely deserves a couple days off to let it heal.

Ya got me. I foolishly thought a really hot AAA player who is also a defensive whiz in the outfield and infield would be useful--sooner rather than later. My 5 infielders would thus become: Devers, Story, Rafaela, Casas, and Reyes/Chang/Arroyo (pick one).

I do not disagree that, even with all those great stats, Rafaela is a gamble. On the other hand, Chang and Arroyo are pretty much known quantities--weak hitting subs hoping to get to play.

That's what I thought.

The only positions he doesn't play well are catcher and 1B. I'd make him the 5th infielder of Devers, Story, Rafaela, Casas, and Reyes/Arroyo/Chang (keep one).

I do not think anyone is looking for or expecting Cedanne to come over and be the solution to a problem . If he gets a Sept call-up then good for him, but not even counting on that. Might have been different if Verdugo had been traded, but that didn't happen.

Hope I don't have to eat my words but moving Chang, with Story back, was not a hard choice. Sale's return won't either with the back end of the pen guys. Llovera has shown nothing so far.

I will go on record early saying that if Story or Sale go back on the IL with an injury before Oct 1, then that individual will not make the RS HoF.

Only way Raf comes up before September is if an everyday player, more likely an OF, goes on the IL.

You are probably right.

In the land of the blind (RSN), the one eyed man is the DH. The fat man plays 3B

The Sox brought back Sandoval?

I thought he retired from baseball to eat full time…

Agreed. 100%.

He may not even get the call in SEP.

Don't the rules count SEPT as time served and influence Rafaela's service clock?
