I didn't mean they are going to build a rotation through trades now but they need to get as many prospects as they can and, hopefully sign some decent FA pitchers next off season. I would try to keep Paxton if he can get healthy. That is a big IF.

I don’t think this plan is conducive with ownership. Bloom isn’t the reason they’re not spending…

Wait -- what? Sign some decent pitchers? Before the Red Sox are good again?

Why waste good money on good players for a bad team -- haven't you been paying attention to the plan? Don't you read all the logical posts on talksox?!?!?!?!?!

In Boston, you get what you don't pay for -- unless you're a fan, who pays Fenway prices for tickets, parking and concessions in pursuit of entertainment...

Who knows what they're doing? They did spent a few bucks on Story and Yoshida. And Bloom does throw a few "tenners" around LOL

This is a bad team, and it's not just the pitching. They'll be better next year with a more cohesive roster.

If we trust them to make good moves. My trust is low. What's the rotation gonna look like?

The Devers extension kicks in, next season, but if that is the only expense that puts us over the tax line, then we can probably expect just slow progress.

I had hopes that once a deeper foundation and farm were established, we'd "splurge," but I'm not so sure when that will be, anymore.

Had we spent Kluber ($10M) + Duvall ($7M) on a better pitcher, would the narrative been much different?

Had we signed Eflin to whatever it took and not Kluber, would it have made a huge difference?

If your answer is yes, then maybe Bloom is more to blame. If no, then it's mostly about JH not spending what you would like him to spend.

I will only add that replacing JH may not be the solution to more spending and or better management.

4 rings in 2 decades will be very hard to duplicate with any new management/ownership group.

My gut tells me they'll get a guy to slot down the rest of the rotation.

They pretty much have to, IMO.

I think people look at the failures or Kluber, Richards and Perez and think Bloom cannot recognize an ace when he sees one, but those guys were $7-10M signings and were not expected to be aces.

Aces are hard to find. The success rate of FA ace signings is below 50%.

The SOX aren't a bad team, they're a mediocre team at this point. Check the MLB standings and you will see plenty of bad teams. This isn't to say that the SOX can't become a bad team before the season's over. Otoh, they could just be mediocre the rest of the way. Of course, they could also transform into a good team, but the recent history of ownership spending makes that appear highly unlikely.

that's the way i see it. to me, he's not the boy genius he was made out to be. he's just your average guy making a few good moves and a few bad moves that about any GM could have made. nothing special. after nearly four years, i'm just...disappointed.
