Stanton could be best described as a muscle-bound albatross.

Forgetting the horrendous contract, would Boston take him for free ? Don't think so.

I’m going to want to see more before I think he has what it takes. So far so good.

I agree it's a relatively small SS, but can you name a starter, drafted by the SOX, and pitching for the SOX, who has been as effective as Bello has been this far since Buchholz?

I'd use him strictly for security. In case a bunch of professional crooks tried to rob Fenway. Hm, sounds like an idea for a movie.

Development of pitchers by the Red Sox in the last 10+ seasons has been atrocious.

Ass clown umpire tired and wants to go home, calls anything in vicinity of plate a strike. They are subjective, not objective like the robo ump would be Edited by vegasbob

Not off hand, no

Bloom was picking up garbage in between games of the double header. Maybe he is preparing for a new career.

700, he's been picking up garbage in the form of injured and incapable players for over 3 years. Nothing to see here. Not totally fair but everyone should be in a good mood today

I think I heard that the Sox don’t play the Yankees again until September.

Strange schedule if true.

Yup and only 13 games this year compared to other years where we played them 19 times.

And I would be in a better mood if Bloom got reassigned to Boston Sanitation.

700 was the perfect straight man for your punch line. You beat me to it.

Sox with a 4 game win streak, just swept the Yanks, got good pitching all around, Houck escaped major injury, the team score 25 runs in the sweep, and y'all are talking about garbage Bloom this, garbage Bloom that, and whining about pitching development? Enjoy the wins.

Vegas was just repeating what many on this board have already been saying, including myself. If the SOX get into another losing streak(hopefully not) those criticisms will come back around. But, like you said, enjoy the moment. Sweeping the Yankems is always a delight.

i'm not sure a cracked cheek bone is escaping major injury, but, fortunately, his eye was not involved.

Remember Juan Encarnación? Look him up.

On deck batters and pitchers are most at risk for serious injuries on hard hit balls. Herb Score was more closely related to what happened to Houck, except Score was hit in the eye. He did recover and didn't lose eyesight in his injured eye, but he was never the same pitcher afterwards.

Batters are the most at risk for serious injuries. Anyone who says baseball isn't a physically dangerous game is an idiot.

A side note on the Herb Score injury. Gil McDougald, who hit Score in the eye with his liner, at the time stated he would retire from baseball if Score's vision didn't return to his injured eye.

All of the above pales compared to the tragedy of Tony C's life.

It's not a comparison. It's an example of how brutal a ball with that sort of velocity to the face can be

Indeed. That was one of the most heartbreaking events in Red Sox history.
