It sure looks as though the very last thing Sox pitching coaches focus on is command, and by that I mean at all levels of the Sox system.

 

Might help explain why Buchholz was the last good SOX starter to come thru the SOX farm.

Yeah, but 1 run allowed is perfectly acceptable. Would prefer he’d have gone 5 or 6 but allowed 3 bombs?

 

I think it was Mike Mussina who said you get 32 starts a year. 8 of them you have everything, 8 of them you have nothing and the other 16 you have something. This was a cross between the 8 with nothing and the 16 with something.

If Kike had been running on the pitch, as in stealing a base, it would have made more sense. That 3rd out was made in front of Devers, but that's a whole other discussion.

Agree 100%. Killer was Valdez and McGuire unable to make contact and get him to second.

You want unacceptable? Point out Garza from the bullpen and the freaking lineup. Compared to them--the lineup and Garza--Bello is the start of the Sox in this game.

No, the point being you are wrong about this game.

 

As others with some sense have pointed out, while 4 innings is subpar for a start, giving up 1 run in 4 innings is pretty doggone terrific.

 

The lineup is scoreless in 6 innings. Garza couldn't go two innings and gave up 2 runs.

I honestly thought the lineup would bring their bats tonight. Back home, day off , etc. Lively certainly was, but what makes a full lineup go into a major slump at once. In the prior 7 games , they scored 3 or less , including 2 shutouts in 6 of those. Now being shoutout again.

I don't drink, but my guess is you've had two or three too many Gansetts. Otherwise you would have more sense than to single out Bello for criticism when it's the rest of the team--the bullpen and the lineup--that are falling on their asses.

 

Yes, 5 innings for the bullpen. Too freaking bad. But at least Bello--unlike Sale, Kluber, Pivetta, Houck, Paxton, Whitlock, whoever--didn't give the game away. He went 4, giving up 1 run. And you want to label him a bum.
