Good for Kluber. Not by any means a "good start," but also not a disaster--4 runs in 5 innings.

Less pressure on the bullpen too because the Sox are behind 4-1. Funny how losing your 3d game in a row can make so many people happy.

Nothing like praising a starter that took us to a 1-4 deficit. Way to lower the standard.

What praise do you see in "not by any means a good start?" My real point was/is that the bullpen loves those 4 runs because they're off the the hook. They don't have to hold onto a lead like they failed to do yesterday and the day before. So, for example, no big deal when Bernardino gives up 2 more to make it 6-1. They can just say, "not our fault tonight. Kluber gave up 4, and the lineup wasn't hitting. Blame them."

Is Schreiber injured or Cora just stupid?

Meh. I'm perfectly happy blaming Cora for yesterday, but tonight, with Kluber giving up 4, the lineup scoring just 1 run in 5 innings, and Bernardino loading the bases in the 6th, the smart move is not to waste a good arm on a lost cause. That's exactly why Brasier pitched the 9th in Friday night's game. Jansen had already given the game away.

Thanks to Jansen, this was a lost weekend, almost destroying the good feelings from the 8 game winning streak.

Jansen had help. Winck gave up 3 on Friday. Cora insisted on sending Jansen back out yesterday when he had been absolutely killed--3 runs, no outs--the night before.

A perfect night and game for Brasier. Kluber was so-so, the hitting wasn't, Bernardino stunk in relief, and now Casas screws up about as easy a throw as there is--just throw it--a very short throw--over the bag, not 10 yards behind the freaking runner.

The Beantown Boppers are playing like they did in the early weeks of the season . No real hitting, errors and Cora managing his BP with extremely bad luck.

Bad luck? Maybe bad decision yesterday and today is more accurate. I know I'm in the minority in posting this, but I wouldn't shed any tears if Cora was replaced.

No and yes.

I have no complaints about Cora tonight, nor about Friday night. Yesterday, you betcha.

Friday night our ace closer was a disaster, and absolutely no blame can be placed on Cora for that.

Tonight, with Kluber starting, the Sox needed to score some runs and haven't--so far, anyway.

Braiser came in and didn't get the job done.

It wasn't charged him so yep he pitched well.

Kluber's the one who gave up 4 runs. The lineup are the guys who have scored 1 run in 7 innings. Bernardino was the one who loaded up the bases for the Cardinals. Casas made the egregious error on an easy throw to 1st base when he decide to throw at the runner instead of the base.

I am far from a Brasier fan and agree with most of the criticism of him. But he was not sent out tonight to save anything. He was sent to get some outs, which he did. Bernardino was charged with 2 runs and got 2 outs. Brasier was charged with 0 runs and got 4 outs.

Despite my caustic criticism recently, I think the Sox have a pretty decent bullpen. But one thing they don't have and the Cardinals do have is decent lefty relievers.

Only bad call in this series was bringing back Jansen yesterday. Winck and Jansen were the right calls Friday but between them gave up 6 runs and the game. Jansen should not have pitched yesterday--and proved it.

As for today, it's on Kluber and Bernardino who between them gave up 6 runs while the Sox lineup could only score 1--so far. If the Sox lineup suddenly scores 5 runs, I might change my tune, but I doubt it.

And weren't you the one singing the "the Cardinals are finally showing their true colors--they're a solid ball club" song yesterday? Today's game would appear to be a confirmation of that. The loss yesterday was confirmation of Cora's bad choice of sending Jansen back out yesterday after getting blown away Friday night.

ERA for relievers are meaningless.

I doubt Brasier would say he did his job.

"It wasn't my fault" ....i"d guess y'd buy that excuse.

Bosox11's comment about the Red Sox team being "absolutely listless" tonight comes very close to describing the mid to late innings efforts . Part of that is blowing 2 losses then watching your BP give up 5 runs in another losing effort.

What exactly was his job? Kluber gave up 4 runs, Bernardino gave up 2 runs, Brasier gave up 3 runs, and the lineup has scored 1 run in 8 innings.

I think Brasier's job was to eat a couple of innings and he did that. 2.1 shutout innings would have been nice, but would have made no difference in this game.
