Littell let up the winning run for the Mets vs TBR. The O's lost, as well.

We will pick up a 1/2 game vs NYY or TOR, tonight, but lose a half to the other.

Diamond Sports Group had until the end of today to pay the Padres their scheduled rights fee and has decided not to do so. Tonight will mark the final Padres game that airs on Bally Sports. Moving forward, MLB is expected to take control of broadcasts.

Only 2 teams are more 11 games behind the last WC slot (KCR & OAK.)

Amazingly, only 7 teams are more than 5.5 GB a slot!

(Add STL, COL, WSH, DET & CWS)

23 out of 30 teams think they have a real shot at the playoffs.

Okay, maybe the Mets don't.

Biggest surprises?

41-31 MIA (6th best record in MLB)

44-27 BAL (3rd best)

43-29 AZ (5th best)

41-33 LAA (7th)

39-32 SFG (8th)

All better than...

39-33 HOU

39-33 LAD

39-33 NYY

39-34 TOR

38-34 PHI

37-34 MIL

BOS & CIN are tied for the 15th best record- both surprises to many people.

Biggest bust:

33-38 NYM

29-43 STL

After logging a .524 OPS with the Yankees this year, Aaron Hicks has a 1.048 OPS with the Orioles.

The second number is exactly twice as big as the first! :D

Lots of ex-Yankees having success this year. Gary Sanchez/James Paxton/Joey Gallo (still batting under .200 but back to HRing and walking)/Aroldis Chapman/Thairo Estrada/Sonny Gray/David Robertson. I know some players seem to thrive with certain teams for no apparent reason, but the number having success away from the Yankees is especially pronounced this year. Not a good look for our coaches/Cashman (though I'd say more on the hitting side, Matt Blake has actually had a positive effect overall).

You forgot Jordan Montgomery.

That trade is a hard one to call. Bader has been very good *when* he plays.

Yes, but still JM is doing better when away from NYY- like the others.

I disagree on this one. In 2023 Montgomery has a 3.49 ERA, 1.29 WHIP, and 3.49 FIP. He was healthy with the Yanks in 2021 and half of 22, and in that time he had a 3.77 ERA, 1.20 WHIP, and 3.78 FIP. Also YS is more hitter friendly than Busch Stadium, so the difference between the two performances is pretty negligible.

Good points. Maybe saying he's doing "well" not "better" would have been a better choice of words.

I was thinking more about total numbers with NYY v STL, but that's not really fair.

JM did do better w STL, right after the trade, last year, but his numbers this year are pretty much in line with his recent years in NY.

Would NYY take the trade back?

I personally prefer Bader to Montgomery, so I wouldn't. But who knows what Cashman thinks.

Overall, Montgomery had a 3.94 ERA and 108 ERA+ with the Yankees, and a 3.44 ERA and 120 ERA+ with STL. Let's not pick nits, he's been better with the Cards, but not by an earth-shattering margin.

There is still some good left in the world...

@StoolBaseball

Alek Manoah in his first start in the Florida Complex League:

2.2 IP

10 H

11 ER

2 BB

3 K

2 HR

Posted

Manoah just forgetting how to pitch is very odd. He was one of best pitchers in league last two years and looked like a future ace.

He did seem to be a douche though, so can’t say I’m disappointed

Posted

So Luis Arraez, who's currently batting 397 has the lowest exit velo.

Just goes to show its not about hammering the ball but more so using all fields

This season Ohtani is putting up, is one of the greatest in the history of the sport

No doubt!

He's on pace for about 60 Hrs and 130 RBI while batting almost .310!

He lead the league in OPS, SLG, HRs, RBIs, 3Bs and TB.

3.8 bWAR/4.1 fWAR

That, alone would be great, but he's also started 16 games:

7- 3 3.02

12K/9 Leads league

5.7 H/9 leads league (1.038 WHIP)

2.7 bWAR/ 1.9 fWAR

Total WAR

6.5 bWAR

6.0 fWAR

Pretty damn good for a full season!

Rangers got a jump on the trade deadline by acquiring Aroldis Chapman from K.C. He obviously has some baggage, but he is much needed help for their bullpen, which has been their weak area.

The most expensive team in baseball history, by far, is 10 games under .500.

Amazin'!

But on the bright side, a lot of those contracts expire after this year. Assuming, of course, you consider Carrasco, Robertson and Pham to be “a lot of those contracts.”
