Kristian Campbell called up to GRE. Had a 1082 OPS in FCL. Skipping SAL as he's a college grad.

You think there will be many more promotions as the seasons near an end?

I know the farm seasons are going later than years past (mid Sept,?) but still....

We may see a couple more, but I don't think anything substantial.

Seems like most pitchers are moving in the other direction.

I know. And this guy isn't a youngster. But what the hell, nothing to lose.

So they're converting Barraclough to a starter, interesting.

He was starting in AAA before he was called up.

They’re also converting him to Scientology. Not sure why…

Sure.

They could both be starting in September.

Refsynder, Duran, Rafeala, and abreau

a relatively young and inexperienced outfield. But defensively light years ahead of what got now

Indeed.

Duran/Ref platoon in LF

Rafaela in CF

Abreu RF

Not so sure I want to hand a starters position over to Abreu just yet. his .788 OPS vs. LHP is very encouraging but at the AAA level without much more of a track record.

I like him, and am more convinced now than ever that he may be a MLB player but i'm not sure I'm ready to make him a starter over a guy like Duran just yet.

I'd hand it to him, right now, and ride the hot hand, if and until he shows he does not deserve it.

I do agree, no matter what happens in the next 5 weeks, I'd want a vet in the mix for 2024 that can play CF/RF, in case Rafaela and or Abreu struggle.

I would be comfortable figuring two starters in the outfield between Yoshida/Duran/Rafaela/Abrea, with the other two being a DH/4th OFer type, Verdugo is your 3rd RFer, but if he can not be extended do we trade or sign an OFer and flip him for pitching?

Otherwise I'm ok with Yoshida/Duran/Verdugo to start the season. Rafaela is going to fit into the roster at some point, looks like he's finally starting to struggle at the MLB level with weak contact so perhaps he's not as close as he seemed, but I would still figure him to be in Boston middle of next year.

I do like the ideal of moving Verdugo for some pitching and then moving Yoshida to DH. You can improve your defense and pitching right there.

That does seem like a logical move. Not sure how much Verdugo would bring back though, probably have to add a decent prospect or too. As always you have to figure out who you match up with.

Rafaela is not struggling.

IMO, he has a slot on the 2024 MLB roster, already. He has to show he does not deserve it, going forward to lose that slot.

I think we trade Dugo and try to bring Duvall back.

LF: Duran-Refsnyder platoon (Yoshida DH/LF)

CF: Duvall- Rafaela (Duran)

RF: Rafaela-Abreu (Refsnyder)

Rosier may surprise, as well.

It's a very small sample size, but it's one that is congruent with the scouting on him. Leading one to believe that the scouting and more advanced pitching at a higher level may be starting to adjust.

The past week he's batting .208 with 6 K's and 1 BB in 24 at bats. No extra base hits.

Again, still a very small sample size, but regardless he's struggling to improve his plate approach in such a way that would make MLB success much more likely.

Verdugo is the better defender out of Duran, Refsnyder and Yoshida, so trading Duran improves the D more. He also would bring back a better pitcher than Dugo, but his years of control is also a benefit to us.

We greatly improved our OF, last winter, so maybe blowing it up is not such a great idea.

Moving Yoshida to near FT DH is the biggest no-brainer of the off season, especially if his recent slump is related to fatigue. Turner will bolt, unless we offer him a big deal, and I doubt we do that.

Our IF and Catching positions seem set:

C: Wong/McGuire (Scott in AAA and on the 40)

1B: Casas (Dalbec in AAA and on the 40)

2B: Urias/Reyes (EValdez in AAA and on the 40)

SS: Story/Reyes-Urias (DHam in AAA and on 40)

3B: Devers, Urias-Reyes (no minor league depth on 40.)

DH: Yoshida

LF: Duran/Refsnyder platoon (Yoshida as depth)

CF: __ FA__, Rafaela, Abreu, Duran

RF: Dugo, Abreu (Refsnyder is emergency depth)

(Rosier does not need Rule 5 protection until 2025.)

I suspect he'll start tonight vs. Lynn and sit tomorrow vs. Urias.

I'm sure Cora has a plan, and it might differ from my ideas.

When is Duran due off the IL?

I'm pretty sure Ref will start vs the lefty Urias, but I think Cora did not start Ref vs a LH'd SP'er, recently.

Cora will "rest" Yoshida v the lefty. Ref LF, Duvall CF, Dugo RF (not Abreu.)

I think it depends on how soon they think Roman Anthony could be ready. If they think Anthony could contribute in 2025, you can roll out Verdugo in 2024 knowing that you have a replacement the following year.

LF Abreu

CF Rafaela

RF Verdugo

I guess it would depend on what they see Duran's ceiling on and what the trade return is.

They may view Duran's stock as being as high as it will ever be, or they may think he can continue to improve.

It's nice having his speed in the lead-off slot, if they think he can maintain a .350+ OBP. (It's .346, now.)

I'm not sure how upset they are with Verdugo over his natics, this year, but we will not get a solid SP'er for him, unless we include a top prospect.

More likely, we keep all our current OF'er and let Duvall walk.

With only one year left, Verdugo might not bring back much in trade…
