\Even Jeter made a nice catch (and won some GGs, too,) so what does that tell you?

Did I hear right the OB called the catch arguably the greatest catch in Red Sox history last night during the game? That’s all I said that he was GOOD ENOUGH to do that. Good for Jeter.

Good enough to make THE CATCH.

See this is the problem with Eye Test Advocates. They see one or two plays and draw deep conclusions from them…

No to me it would be the other way around if you were actually watching what happened, and still needed more. The point is, and was he was good enough to make a famous catch in Red Sox history. Why try to make it more than that?

What did the eye test tell you how Raffy did at 3B last night? Or do you need analytics to tell you? It’s very telling from the highlights I saw.

Oh goody! A quiz!

1. Last night was just more evidence about why the Sox need Chapman.

2. You do the precious Eye Test that “tells you everything you need to know” on highlights!?!?

3. Analytics are not applicable to a one game sample size. The same is actually also true for the Eye Test, but I see you haven’t worked up to applying it over a full game yet…

What did analytics tell you about the bunt last night that scored a runner from 2B? What did the eye test tell you?

Again - not how analytics work. Also, not really how the eye test works. What did it tell you?

Eye test on highlights? Now that's a new low...

Mediocre fielding play. That catch is made almost nightly in MLB.

But what made it THE CATCH was the moment it was done in, and that is not done almost nightly.

Can you name the last 5 guys to make that catch?

No, because I don't have an encyclopedic knowledge of every MLB game.

That's different than the difficulty of the play.

The point being what did analytics tell you about those plays?

No, you use your "eye test" only on highlights. It's not worth conversing with you over this.

I never said it was difficult. It all started when I said that Beny was good enough to make it, and them some took it to a who different discussion from there. Coincidentally OB talked about it during the broadcast last night.

If I had watched the game i wouldn’t have had to watch the highlights, but it still would have showed me the same thing. It’s not worth conversing, because your analytics don’t come into play here, so why get into the conversation at all.

I splint call it a mediocre fielding play, or even an easy play. But the point is you don’t wrap up one guy’s career worth of fielding by one play, regardless of the situation.

A couple weeks ago I was watching a Cubs-Cardinals game. With 2 outs in the ninth and a runner on base, Alex Burleson launched one to straight away CF. Cubs CF Mike Tauchman ran back and timed his leap to pull it from back over the wall and preserve the win. Was it a great play? Absolutely. Does it make Tauchman, whom many of us are familiar with from his days as a Yankee, a great defensive center fielder? Absolutely not. He’s mediocre at best…

So back to the bunt highlight - what did your eye test tell you?

This is all well, and good, but it doesn’t change the fact that Beny was good enough to make THE CATCH in the 2018 ALCS, and that’s all I said. You have tried to make it more than that.

I’m waiting for the analytics to come out to see if we agree. Let me know when it does.

Again, not how analytics work. Judging them on one play is like assessing a players batting average on one at bat.

I take it once again you’re simply not sure what you’re talking about. I’ll wait for your standard giveaway “I’ve already explained it once” to confirm this…

Mainly because the actual topic was his mediocre defense. You were the one who hijacked it and took it in another direction…

If you wasn’t actually watching how would you know what happened on the bunt? If you wasn’t watching how would you know what happened on the bad throw to 2B by the pitcher? If you wasn’t watching how would you you know how Raffy played at 3B last night? Seems to me this analytics isn’t all it’s cracked up to be.

Agreed, but it's better to be remembered for the Benintendi Play than for the Buckner Play...

Which is exactly why I wouldn't have that play memorized. It's not like an unassisted triple play or something.

Wow! It’s more about the circumstances of when it happened.
